Reminds me of an old story (Groans, do I hear?).
The old gentleman was called to the witness stand during a trial. The defense attorney sought to discredit his testimony:
"And you're Col. Beauregard? Tell me were you in the Army?" quizzed the attorney.
"No, Sir, I was in the Army, but not a colonel," was the gentleman's reply.
"Maybe Air Force, then?" the badgering continued.
"No, Sir," was his response.
"Surely then, the Marine Corps?" smirked the lawyer.
"No, Sir, not the Marine Corps."
"Then, please tell the court exactly what the title "colonel" means," demanded the attorney.
"Well, Sir, its sort of like the title "Honorable" used with your name. It doesn't mean a thing."
