Welcome!
The serial number says this is a Light Weight. The cylinder frame is aluminum, as is the grip frame which has been polished after it left the factory.
Judging by the picture, that looks like Light Weight Aluminum Cylinder / LWAC. Check it with a magnet.
Go to Rugers website and download the form to send in for an official Ruger letter, its 10 bucks and will tell you when and where shipped.
Cool gun, enjoy it.

Cheers,

Welcome to the Forum buellrule!!!!

Your research is a little off. It's a 1957 Lightweight model. Desirable to collectors. The rear sight is a drift adjustable only,, not a true adjustable rear sight. Someone polished the grip frame,, but that can be fixed. It doesn't look very rough to me.

And I too will express the "DO NOT SEND IT IN FOR THE SAFETY TRANSFER BAR UPGRADE!

If you want a revolver that's safe to carry loaded with 6 rounds, you can sell your Lightweight and buy a New Model Single Six or Wrangler. You can probably buy two Wranglers with the proceeds from the Lightweight. I'd be interested in buying the Lightweight-I'm a 1957 model myself. And aside from the polished grip frame, I'm curious about why you describe your revolver as "rough".

This post went over to the Rimfire section.... Still a good buy for a collector :)

The rear sight is "drift adjustable" but make sure to loosen the set screw underneath it first.

And please, don't send it in for a safety conversion.

If you want a converted OM, I'm sure there are many here, me included, that would be glad to work out some sort of trade deal.

YES< what Randy said !! the rear sight is screwed in place from underneath, and have had them come in the shop ,the sight beat to death trying to move it over many years ago..........and as noted above that cylinder does look like the "blackened" aluminum ones, till Ruger changed them out to steel cylinders the last LW models, gotta check the serial number range........looks like a NICE gun to us, the pictures do NOT show "rough" ;)
