I checked the serial numbers of the brass framed Super Blackhawks in John Dougan's book, "Ruger Pistols & Revolvers", but they were not listed. The shipping information on the FT 44 with serial number 322 will have to be obtained via a factory letter. I would also letter the two brass framed Supers as even though they are not listed in the book, it is worth looking in the factory records to determine how they were configured when shipped.

Take a closer look at the 56 Flat Top. Look at the screw holes. Is it a light shadow or wheel mark. Also the rear sight base pin hole

Wow! $1000. That is a score. I remember those days here in Oregon… but the last time I found a decently priced gun at a sale was many years back. Got a Lee Enfield for $75.

I salute you, sir on your amazing purchase.

My info says 7.5" flattop 44's didn't appear till s/n 17K or so. Were there exceptions?

I bought a gunsmiths parts collection a couple of months ago, approximately 75 pounds of parts, and I found this Ruger Blackhawk barrel in 44 Mag. It is 7.5 inches in length and the bore is mint
On top of the barrel is written, "Made in 200th Year of American Liberty".
This barrel came off a Blackhawk made in 1976.

If I copied this link correctly, it should show most of the known 7 1/2" 44 FT (OM) serial numbers "we" know of:

Ok, so we were off in our ASSUMPTION of the barrel length on the OM Ft .44. It's a 6-1/2". That STILL makes it a very desirable handgun.

And yes,, that 200 yr barrel did come off a SUPER Blackhawk!

Basically that is the 3 eras of the eagle (phoenix) that the Ruger Co., started with first model 22 semi auto pistol of 1949 was hand painted "red" by Mr Bill Rugers partner Alex Sturm, these were hand painted by Mr Sturm who was also quite the artist back in that day, he wrote books but that is to be found in looking at the history of Ruger but here in a brief 'bio'...........later I believe around Nov of 1951 the rather young Alex Strum died and in "mourning' Bill Ruger had the eagles painted "black" in honor of Strums passing....stayed that way till the early 1970s just before the New model Ruger came out they transitioned to a 'silver' eagle...been that way since with variations of reddish backgrounds, around the silver eagle mainly in 1999 when the frist 50 th anniversary guns were introduced...and so it goes...find this all in depth in any of the Ruger books written over the years.........hope this helps..;)
