After having the second warmest Jan. ever recorded, tonight we have a temperature of -20 and the wind is howling. The news just said the windchill temp on Mt. Washington in NH is -107. This next week the temps are supposed to get back up in the 30's.:)

You're welcome to it. I've lived where it gets cold and snows a lot. At this point in my life, I like sunshine. Heck, it's been in the 30s here for most of the week, with wind and rain. That's cold, for Houston!

I worked with a construction/engineering company for many years. We were building a coal processing plant in Coalstrip, Montana, and when the winter hit we had to shut down as the ground was frozen so hard we could not excavate. And in Logansport, Indiana, a steel grain tank, of about one million bushels capacity, had the contents (corn) freeze. The expanding grain ruptured the steel tank walls and spilled the grain out onto the ground.

Hit zero here last night around 2 AM, with a wind chill of -24. Haven't seen this since I was wee kid.

Yep same here in Ma. Wind chill made it feel like -20. Kept the heat up all night of course but was only 58 when I came down this morning in living room. Outside was -3. Suppose to hit 47F. by noon tomorrow. Seem like late spring after this.

Those are some cold temps!

And, I suppose somebody had to do it... Here is a picture of the beach yesterday. Admittedly, I was a bit chilly, I only had on a sweater and the wind was blowing so I didn't stay that long.

Kevin,

I see you are in Galveston. Did you ever see this post I posted for you?

No! I didn’t. Thanks! I was just in Galveston yesterday. I’ve been going down every couple weeks to meet with the contractor on our house.

But I’m really starting to like Galveston. It’s got some great architecture, all the old houses and such. The downtown area too.

I’ll check this out. And also that restaurant up in Conroe. It’s right off of 45, so I drive right past it on my way back and forth.

Thanks!

I look at it this way here; it's February, it's Maryland and cold weather is expected. There are some things that I have no control over, the weather being one. I don't like it but I expect and accept it. Each day checked off the calendar is one day closer to Spring.

We are going to Galveston one of these days. Want to see the silk stocking district and watch the ships in the Houston canal/bayou/shipway, whatever it is called. Was there once at night many years ago and was enthralled by the spectacle - huge ships passing thru town more or less.....
