Is the Earth slowing down?

The Earth has been circling the Sun for billions of years. Even in space there is some actual matter, so it makes sense to expect that over time the speed of the Earth will slow down, and thus its orbit will decay, eventually having the Earth crash into the sun due to gravity. I think that this is a much greater problem than any climate change that may or may not be happening. And I have thought long and hard about what we can do about it and have come up with a solution.

At a specified time we need to have everyone on the far side of the planet at that moment to fire their guns opposite the direction of the moving Earth. That will create an equal and opposite reaction, speeding up the movement of the Earth. As the planet rotates, the other half of the planet will fire their guns at a specified time, adding to the "push" on the Earth. I'm not sure how often we need to do this to offset the natural slowing of the Earth, but to aid in this we need to encourage everyone human on the planet to own at least one gun and have at least one box of ammo for that gun. If enough people get behind my idea, all of the anti-gun people will realize that they and the radical environmentalists need to join the NRA and expand the ownership of firearms, to save the Earth!

Its so nice to be retired and have the time to think about the BIG problems facing the world and to come up with a solution. You're welcome.

I have it on good Authority that will never happen.
Genesis 8:
21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Fun thoughts but the earth's orbital speed is probably not decreasing because the sun's atmosphere, at 93 million miles, has a negligible drag effect on the earth. Also, your bullets would have to escape the earth to have any effect.

so many people have the inate ability to "discover" things using the internet that were taught in grade school, yet apparently never learned, nor investigated with a discerning mind.

Speeding up the earth would cause the earth's orbit to grow larger and move us slightly further from the sun, thus your solution would also decrease global warming.

I think a bunch of ya'll have plenty of "time" and it would be better used if spent over in Illinois with vito helping him eliminate the excess items mentioned in an earlier post. :) SATCOM

Of course the Earth is slowing down. Tidal forces between the moon and Earth and sun are lengthening the length of our days by about a millionth of a second per day. It will be a while before most will notice it.
