In my collector grade Mark series pistols I leave the original style recoil springs in them. In my shooter grade Mark pistols I use the Mark 4 style recoil spring. It is made much better and is a direct replacement for Mark 1 thru Mark 3 recoil springs. Also in my range bag I have 3 different Volquartsen recoil springs. Each with a different spring tension and a pill bottle with some replacement parts in case I have to do a field repair. In 42 years of shooting Ruger 22 autos I only had one part fail, a extractor on a 1954 Std. model and that pistol was 49 years old at the time and well used before I got it.
