what I like is when the cops on the scene pick up one ejected case and it is a 38 special. I read that in a Robert Parker I think Spenser story...

as for the 1911 question... I was taught cocked and locked but have never carried one.... have a good friend that does... my only firm belief is how ever you carry it you do it like that always, Don't vary.
Carried a 1911 cocked and locked (condition 1) on duty for years. To carry otherwise on duty can be dangerous.

Imagine carrying a 1911 like Lone Wolf Gonzaullas used to carry. No trigger guard and a trigger shoe to add to the fun. I imagine that he was someone who very few people messed with.
He knew what he wanted, and worked-out the work-arounds. Specialised thinking, training, procedures. some people prefer knives with big hilts and one edge, others get used to two edges and no real guard and still have all their fingers. Triggershoes on guns with triggerguards have caused "unintendeds"; its operator malfunction, not equipment error. Bobbed triggerguards, spur triggers and folding triggers are historical. I was told "fitz" did the work on it for ol' manny. He dident have a triggerguard on his auto5 browning, either. One riot, one ranger! I recall i have seen them, waco has a lil museum for Them Texas Rangers.
You can get used to anything, if its important enough.

I like to ask if they've ever seen a Hollywood depiction of what they do on the daily. Is it anywhere near correct? Now "what makes you think gun knowledge can be gained on TV".

The light comes on, now we can teach truths about guns.
