Interesting 22 short tests: NAA mini revolver vs. Henry pump rifle & HP vs. RN

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Thanks for the video. I had wondered about the cold affecting the ballistics gel. But the guy said he let it get up to room temp first.

Question: why did some of the rounds end up base first. Backwards I guess. Do they flip immediately when hitting the gel? Or does it happen inside the gel halfway through their 7 inch path?

I would like to see a slow motion video of that, I'll have to look one up. The slo-mo guys might have one.

Another question:
Why buy a dedicated 22 short NAA revolver when you could buy the long rifle and have both options?

Great video though, thanks for posting.
My wife carries an LCR in .22lr so I've watched a gazillion .22 ballistics videos. It seems the hollow points tumble a lot compared to a round nose.

I've had the unfortunate experience of having to use the NAA mini 22 short. I used to carry it as a deep cover gun.

A guy high on meth attacked me and my partner with a ball bat. I put four rounds of hi speed hp in the center of his chest from five feet away as he was beating my downed partner.

He backed up and charged. As he was hitting me with the bat, my partner shot him in the ass with a 380. That took the fight out of him.

Later the ER surgeon told me that the bullets had fractured the guys sternum but had all stopped on it. My partner and I both promptly bought Detonic 45's as did most of the rest of the narcotics division.
I had the .22 LR, and it can stop. I absolutely agree that, having my own experiences with meth-heads, it would take more to stop one at full buzz. I have seen one walk through a .38 Special. They can also ignore major broken bones for awhile and keep coming. Hitler handed the stuff out to his troops ( We did a bit of that ourselves once we figured out how they were fighting like that, but on a much more limited basis, and usually for special ops.)

I still see .22 as a stopper in normal situations, but have bigger if needed.
