I am probably the only guy in the world who doesn't like the extended magazine release. But, I don't. Is it slam dunk simple to install an old style , flush fit latch? My gunsmith skills are near zero.

Yes! Look at your manual (Ruger has 'em available on their site) and look at the schematic. Pretty straight forward.

I couldn't stand the extended release either and bought 2 of the old style off the Ruger site--one and a spare--no tellin how much longer they'll have them.

Was an easy switch and took me about 10 minutes.

Thanks, I got one. But, for future reference, is the 77/22 latch identical to the old flush 10/22 latch? Ruger part numbers are different but the last two digits of both are "34".

Did this youtube guy do it the way I should expect? He only knocks out one pin and the parts list says there are two. Also, on the schematic it looks like there is some kind of spring you will have to deal with but he didn't disturb it. I hate to sound so clambrained about this, but when it comes to messing with a firearm I don't proceed until I am sure I can do it right.

You only have to remove one pin it is labeled B-35 in the diagram at this link http://www.ruger1022.com/images/1022_trigger_group.jpg just push it out and replace the latch it like it came out.. It is pretty simple.. The spring is for the mag catch and it is not a problem if you hold the mag catch in. You can see he holds in the mag catch with his other hand while inserting the new latch. The vid is a good example of how to do it. Good luck

been thinking of doing this reverse mod on mine on my 10/17 conversion. the stock gun came with an extended release, which imo doesnt work well with the stock 10 round rotory mags. there fine with the 25 rounders like butler creeks and so forth, but i find i dont use them with the 17hm2 as there not as reliable and i dont burn the 17 ammo that fast anyway.

Here's the best one that I've found. It doesn't stick out far, easy to push down and releases the magazine easily. Used to be made by Butler Creek but it looks like Brownells makes it now.
