Just saw pictures from Lake Lure. It looks like a miracle that the dam held.
The area probably would've survived Helene without much problem if it weren't for the 2-3 days of rain immediately before.
Last spring we went thrue a tough weather roads closed trees down was a mess.

Oh, there are thousands more deaths in NC/TN than in FL and GA. I wouldn't be surprised to hear 10,000 deaths as a low number estimate. Entire towns were washed away in mere minutes. These bodies will never be recovered

Gnappi, that picture is just around the corner from where my parents house is. It's at the Lake Lure Marina and community center area. Go around the corner and you would see where the beach was.

Years ago when I was stationed in Korea (67-68)with the 38 Arty Bde (AD) on Osan AFB; NOBODY would donate to the red cross on pay day. One guy had to fly home due to a seriously ill wife, red cross supplied the airline ticket (not military flight) and THEN CHARGED HIM FOR IT !!!! Salvation Army is a different story.

I cant seem to find anything about what the plans might be and have been wondering. Especially the road up the hill over to Asheville. Will they even rebuild that section of road, or perhaps build another one on a different route?
