Anyone recognize these stampings? My guess is they are non-factory import or armory marks?? BTW, this gun is currently listed @ auction on gunbroker here:

OR somebody made one up.
Looks like Springfields Armory stamp.
But without a letter, anybody could have done it, for any reason.

yessir, would be tough to get any "paper work" or documentation, short of the actual factory invoice ( delivery) lots of these were in use for training, and other purposes, and I recall manyyearsd agfo seeing a bunch of them come through ( released) that had short ,stubby barrels, threaded for silencers, and yes, had armory markings and stampings on them...we even had some of the barrels which, I recall it was from Stoegers or Bannermans, that they went ahead and removed the barrelsm, and rebarreled the guns, mix and match, could have a "Mark I" with a 4 3/4 inch "standard" barrel........military surplus baby....
some day I may try and get a hold of the one RST-4 we saw, that had "nazi" proof marks on the gun,,,,,that was a "winner" !!!!!

The gun does not letter as being shipped to - or- for a military contract. Don and I have talked about this gun and we think it was purchased from a dealer by the military and stamped just to keep track of it. I am sure it was used for training purposes. To bad somebody carved their initials in it.. JMO

Chad don't you have any notes on these?

I have notes on the U.S. contract guns, but have no idea about guns purchased by the military on the secondary market.

Sold for $350.

If anybody here bought it, I'd like to learn any history you might be able to find out about it.

Fredrx, I purchased that gun. I have Ruger records researching it for me. The seller gave me this information. "This came out of the estate of a gun owner in N. Ft. Meyers last year when I bought everything from his widow, I can furnish his name and address to you with the gun in shipment, he was a retired doctor, that is all I knew about him. Thanks agian," .....

I am not sure it will letter as a U.S. contract gun but it is a very interesting conversation piece. When I called Ruger before I was told nothing was on record about being shipped as a government contract gun. She did tell me that records has other books (Service Department)that she can look into and would try to see what other information she may be able to dig up. Findley and I talked about it one night and came to the conclusion it was possbly purchased from a dealer by the military for training and stamped by them to keep track of it. Just makes collecting interesting
