Looks like man playing with 12 Ga Dragon's Breath round started started a 350 acre wild fire. I should add that here in NJ we are under a level 3 Red Flag watch. No rain for over 43 days and windy.

If true,, he was using ammo that's declared illegal by NJ law.
And if they are under a level 3 fire red flag watch,, he exhibited stupidity by discharging that round.

If that's true, he should be prosecuted.
They know who he is, and his stupidity WILL cost him. He is charged with Arson as well as several other charges. Don't know if his weapon was legally owned either. Arson alone can be 10-20 in NJ. All depends on the type. 1st degree- which this isn't- would be 15-40.

The range where this occurred is located about 20 minutes from me. I have been there a few times and can say it's a great facility with a current wait list of 2 years. I wonder if this "person" was a member or guest, pretty stupid either way. I understand the buildings were not damaged, but some of the berms were a little crispy. I pray that all those fighting this unnecessary fire, and those in it's path, are safe and this "person" faces the full penalty of his actions.

I wasn't aware that this happened on a range. If so, I would wonder why they would allow the use of that ammo there. Not exactly target ammo. I hope they have some sort of plausible deniability or they will get closed down.

I do take one exception to the news article. That is the sensationalism interjected by the writer.

The fire was described as a "massive" blaze. Yea, all 350 acres of it. In reality this isn't much more than a trash fire. We regularly have fires into the thousands of acres even tens of thousands some years.

The most recent is over 20,000 acres. And that's about average.

My bet is that they don't permit the use of that ammo. It's use is illegal in NJ, the knucklehead should have known better. Can't expect the rso's to check every round.

Beside the fact that the ammo is illegal in NJ, the state is very densely populated. I don't know where you are, but what may be described as a "trash fire" in say, ND where nobody lives, 350 acres is a huge piece of open land in NJ. There are other fires going as well, one being 2500 acres.

Okay, trash might been a little harsh. But the obvious sensationalism is there.
Up to 3700 now ( the Jennings Creek Fire), The Cannonball 3, The Shotgun, Prospect Park, the Jackson Twp., dead fireman in Sterling Forest, and several others. . Might be smaller, but they are burning separately all over the state. Air is full of smoke all over the state. I'm not so sure "sensationalism" really applies.

Only had a drizzle so the fires are still burning, the high winds are another problem. When I was outside this morning I could smell the smoke. Still can't understand why someone would be so clueless, especially with electronic billboards on 195 and 295 warning of fire due to extreme dry conditions.
