Going to haul 19 2X6's and 2 2x10's all 10 ft in length and PT wood in the 6 ft. bed of my Ram truck.
Weight table says about 700 lbs of Total weight.
Figuring 60% of load will be spread out in bed that would leave 40% of weight on open tailgate or around 250 lbs. spread out within 5 stacks of boards.
Think I will be OK.

You should be fine. That's not that big of a load. Unless it's a tiny truck.

My '88 Toy truck (half ton, not 1 ton) is rated for 1640 lbs with some optional pkg it has. It frequently carries 550 lbs in the bed and 200 lbs of me in the cab, and barely sits down on the springs. "Regular" mini-trucks of its day were usually rated about 1100 lbs. In comparison, that Ram shouldn't even know the load's on there. If it does, it should be renamed "Lamb." ;)

I believe your weight is way to high? Maybe 450#?

For Pressure Treated (not knowing the exact species) I would use 32 pounds each for the 2X6's and 55 pounds each for the 2X10's

19X32 + 2X55 = 718 pounds

Yeah.. I noticed the "PT" now...

If the load will fit in my 1994 4WD F-250 HD, I don't worry about the weight and am good to go as long as I have the tires up to 70 psi. I once carried over 2 tons of gravel with no problems but it was a short trip and I stayed off the highway. Start breaking way early.

I was concerned about weight on tailgate not hauling capacity. That weight of my tailgate is at least half or more less than my old '95 F-250 was. But it should be fine. Nothing at all wrong with the Ram...how can you complain about 400 HP and 23 MPG on the highway!!
Have a trailer but didn't want to use it for this job.

Hi,

Can you park a 250 lb person on the tailgate without damage? Two of them? Methinks you'll be ok.

If worst comes to worst, you can always put a 4x4 crosswise in the bed, secured to the load such that it acts as a fulcrum near the rear end of the bed. Add enough weight--coupla bales of hay, coupla sacks of concrete, whatever you've got handy--to the front of the load to lift the rear off the tailgate completely! Think of having a fat kid at one end and a skinny kid at the other end of a teeter totter... ;)

I sit on the tailgate of my Ram all the time and I'm a little (yeah, just a little, LOL) north of 250 so I'm pretty sure you'll be ok.

They sure get better fuel economy than the older ones. Even my 2004 Sierra xcab only got 19-21 hwy, empty. Before E-10,it was 2 mpg higher.

Back in the early 1970s, my dad hauled 35 bales of hay in a 1967 Datsun pickup truck!! I sure wish I had a photo! ;)
