Idiots

Just another example of people not paying attention to signs. The second video really "drives" the point home. Locally we have a similar bridge in east Baltimore that does the same thing on occasion.

That sounds like Tampa/St Pete, they grow 'em pretty stupid around here.

Amateurs compared to Idahoan's.. The cows move faster than the people do.. And they have more brains than the people as well..

I have been where the zipper merge is used PROPERLY. It does work very well. The problem is no one does it.
I see it work daily at an intersection on I-895 near the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. O'Donnell Street enters the right lane and each morning, during rush hour, the traffic is slooooow in that area. Zipper merge is used there and works. If you drive it often you try to stay in the left lane so as not to get into the merge area.

The wife and I have season tickets to the Aberdeen Ironbirds baseball team (short season A orioles). When leaving the stadium parking lot zipper merge is used all the time with no problems. If some one 'person' tries to beat the system he/she will be informed via the horn or other method.

The infamous horn, huh? Well...if someone honked at me, I'd immediately pull out a gun and shoot them. That'll teach em'.

I've found the zipper merge works pretty well except for the older roads that were not designed for it and just adding signs may not convince the typical in a rush commuter.

Another example -- travelling the Interstate, signs appear: "Left lane closed for construction, 1 mi. ahead", "3/4 mi. ahead", "1/2 mi. ahead", "1/4 mi. ahead", "1000 feet ahead". Finally, "500 feet ahead", and NOW the idiots start trying to move right...

Down here in TX they wait until they get to the cones and expect you to let them in.

I wonder how many vehicles that bridge has claimed? Wouldn't that be a great place to sit with an ice chest full of beer?

Bring some hot dogs and a grill and you have dinner and a show..

Cheap entertainment is always a plus. :D

I'm kind of wondering, after all the accidents in that video why they don't attempt to fix the problem? I was thinking of maybe lowering the roadway under it. Rip up the paving and remove the dirt and repave to allow for higher vehicles.

Seems to me that might be cheaper than raising the bridge. Of course they'd have to do something to keep it from filling up with water in a storm.

Because that would take intelligence and forethought.. Intelligence is in short supply nowadays..

Or...maybe they have their own camera set up there and the city council gets together once a month to have a party and watch the fun.

Cary, if you'd have read the article instead of looking at the videos, kinda like Playboy :) , you'd have read this:

"The costs of raising the railroad tracks would be astronomical and the city's main sewer line runs underneath, meaning lowering the road is impossible."

Looks like it's time to form a lynch mob for the city's engineer.

I read that the Sewer main runs under the road at that point AND that it would cost several Million dollars to raise the railroad bridge; WHY do not the truck drivers and others LEARN the height of their vehicles and OBSERVE to warning signs--------------- Problem FIXED !!

So...in other words the city is too cheap to repair the problem. They know the problems are going to keep happening. I know people should read and understand the signs, but you can see how good that is working out.

Evidently no one has been seriously hurt or killed but I wonder what will happen if someone does get killed. I can see the headlines now.

"Driver killed because city is too cheap to fix the bridge".

Nope, that won't work either..

I'll tell you what will work however.. Seen it for myself a bit over ten years ago.. Here's the true story as it happened..

We had a really bad intersection that had cars speeding off the highway on one part of it.. Just a "yield to through traffic" on the other..

People kept getting killed on that intersection to the point where it was nicknamed "blood alley".. Year after bloody year, the body count mounted up on that stretch of road here in Idaho near a city called "Jerome"..

Kids were killed, wives were killed, you name it.. The people kept screaming for a stop light in the intersection.. The city kept saying we had no money for that in the budget.. The deaths kept mounting..

Then one fine day, as luck would have it.. The Mayor's daughter got her lipstick smeared all over the highway on that very intersection.. She was cut in half by the impact.. OOPS!

Suddenly, two weeks later, a stoplight magically appeared out of nowhere in that very intersection! The work crews had that thing installed in record time! By golly you never saw people move their rear ends so fast.. It's a miracle said the people of that town..

Somehow, all of a sudden, the city had the money for the light..

You see, when it's someone else's kid getting greased, nobody gives a damn.. But let some politicians kid get their lipstick smeared all over the road, and we suddenly have all the money we need to fix the issue..

This is what it will take for the city to fix that problem.. The problem will be fixed immediately once a politician's kid gets greased by that bridge..

Then, the skies the limit financially.. Then they'll do something.. Guaranteed..

Not so fast... :p

We have a railroad bridge under which semi truck regularly get "stuck."

There are signs, flashing lights, and now even more flashing lights triggered by over-height loads.

There's even a clearly-marked turnaround for over-height vehicles, right before the bridge.

It's amazing, but people still get "stuck" there regularly. Not as often as they used to, but it's still predictable.

They've got so many redundant warning signs and systems that there should be NO excuse for getting stuck, even if it's your first trip through the area!

People...
