benching a lot of weight seemed a funny way to gauge strength being on the job guys that could bench press 350 lbs barely could carry the same lumber a skinny kid carried easily

I have a friend who used to say the same thing.

He could take an 8lb sledgehammer hold the end of the handle his arm straight out the hammer straight up in the air. Then slowly using wrist strength lower the head kiss it, then raise it vertical again.

Some muscle head was constantly picking on him on a job. He asked the guy "can you do this with a hammer?" Then showed him that he could.

The muscle head said "if a scrawny piss ant like you can then I can".

It didn't end well. Got past the point of no return lost control of the hammer, caved in his face knocked himself out and left in an ambulance.

I will be 74 in a couple of months and for the most part feel pretty good. Currently fighting psoriatic arthritis, Diabetes, HBP, high cholesterol, cirrhosis of the liver, etc. I take a dozen or more prescriptions.
I told myself I didn't need anymore guns, but I still have the itch. So, I will just continue on and enjoy family life, oh and look forward to my next firearm purchase.

Thanks. :) Take care of yourself. There's a lot left for us old kids to do. When I was in my 40's, a woman (being sarcastic) asked me" What do you want to be when you grow up?" My answer was, "Old. Very, very old." I have diabetes and high blood pressure too, as well as enough metal in me to make the front bumper on a '57 Buick, but I'm still doing my best to live up to that.

Edit: correcting auto correct.

Dr told me 6 years ago I couldn't drink because of medicine I'm on + alcohol = kidney/liver failure. Coincidently, soon after, Coors brewing Co had a layoff but Budweiser "Zero" (NA) sales boomed.

I was 6' tall at 12 years old. All my adult life I have been 6' 3 1/2", Rounded to 6'4". I know people shrink when we age. When I check in at Doctors offices they ask my height and I guess about 6'3". Most recently the nurse asked and I said let's measure and find out for sure. I am now 6 ft. even, IN MY SHOES!
That means I've lost 4 inches since my prime. If I live long enough, maybe I'll find out what it's like to be short! By the way, I'm 77 for another 2 months.

Lots of humor and wisdom here. I can't add much except that, having lost my wife of 56 years last month, my wants have suddenly reduced to almost nothing. I never have been afraid of dying but now even less so. I try to think of things to fill my days and so few things appeal to me that it doesn't seem worth it to bother. I know some of this will pass with time but the total outlook is different and probably won't change much.

My condolences. Stay strong and treasure the memories.

Heart is good and so is circulation. Damn, I know how old I am. Want to go some more. 😎👍🏻

I will be 51 in a few months 3 actually . In late 2019 I bought a huge touring bike. When I drive it home my oldest daughter seen it when she came to the house went out and looked at it and said what's wrong with you are you having a midlife crisis? !!!
I laughed and said no but even if I was what difference does it make.
I told her I stopped riding when you was 5 years old and it's been 15 yrs. I waited to do something for myself. I wanted to ride once again before I was too old to hold one up and ride it correctly.
I have put quite a few miles nearly 20,000 most in my home state. And I plan on doing a much longer trip soon now that I have gained back some of my lost strength and skill set.
I lost 58 pounds, started lifting dumbbells and walking and eating better. why so something that I wanted to do and I would be able to do it. My grandfather was a raccoon hunter and at age 65 bought two coonhounds after a near 20 yr. Break. And hunted till his legs Gave out .( He lived to be 89)
I agree keeping reaching for the things you want for the things that bring you joy and happiness and enjoy the life and time God gives you.

In slightly less than three months I'll be 85. Not much I can do that I want to do due to two bad knees and an arthritic right hip that started flaring up about a month ago. A woman I know was surprised I'd lasted this long and asked how I did it. Told her I didn't do anything. "It's just heaven won't allow me in and hell's afraid I'll take over." Seriously though, I'm trying to get a passport and looking for an outfitter that will do an African hunt. That's my want. Been a dream ever since I was about eleven years old.
I understand the loss of a spouse. Mine passed four years ago after putting up with me for fifty-two years. I still haven't quite gotten over that. I still wonder how come I'm still above ground??? Always figured a jealous husband would do me in. Guess I'll just keep on truckin' until I run out of gas.

Just turned 86 a couple weeks ago and realize that wants and needs are sometimes miles apart. Just a while back I was contemplating getting a new motorcycle. Now the priority is getting my wife back to health. I don't need a cycle but really want my wife back to normal.

I started wondering if I were getting old when the centerfold girls in Playboy were younger than me.
I'd guess that was about 45 years ago.
If I had only known I was gonna live this long, back then,I'd have took much better care of myself.
