I think I know how to know that you are old

I think one of the ways to tell how old you are is by how many doctors you have. When you're young, maybe you don't even have a regular doctor. You use the walk-in clinic or the ER for any "bigger" stuff. Once you start getting up there you have your primary doctor, cardiologist, urologist, podiatrist, etc. I think I'm up to about 12 now.
All I know it that it's a good thing I'm retired. There is no way an employer would tolerate all the visits I have to make to the stable of doctors I support.

In 67 days (today being 21 Feb) I will turn 86. Old age shows up in many ways. Eyesight not what it used to be so I wear glasses. Lots of up and down exercise due to prostate enlargement. Can't hear myself fart without hearing aids. Legs are still in good shape but I can't walk far because I can't breathe (COPD). Now, all things considered, I am in great shape thanks to technology and medicine.

I'm 66 and feel 26, and am stronger and healthier than I was in my 20's. I have two boys, 19 and 21 and my main focus now is making sure they're set up to survive when I'm gone. Trying to pay off the ranch, get them both plenty of supplies (all kinds) and some mailbox money so they always have income coming in. I still want things and buy just about whatever I want, when In want it. But am at least thinking more about it these days, so now I'm buying and thinking, ha.
there aint any man at 66 stronger then when they were 26. having a good attitude is essential but be realistic

Well I bench 275 now, 225 then, am 6'4" 205lbs now, 6'4" 185 then, and so on, so, I guess it depends on how much one works out and when, been lifting six days a week since I was about 30, so in my case, I am stronger, but I get your point purely based on physiology.

benching a lot of weight seemed a funny way to gauge strength being on the job guys that could bench press 350 lbs barely could carry the same lumber a skinny kid carried easily

Well, Old Age HUH !!
This month I will turn 82 on the 27th; Today my oldest (my Darling Daughter) Turned 52; My little brother would have been 75 this month if his heart had allowed him to live until now.
Time does suddenly jump up on a person !
Happy early birthday...I too will be turning 54 tomorrow, but is only a #. My Grammy would say to me " your only as old as you wanna feel"🙂

Vito, your observation is very similar to mine. Recently, I've found that "realism" creeps into my desires.

Yes, I want a new C8 Corvette, but then I must admit that I'm no longer skilled enough (at age 75) to enjoy driving it. Yes, I want a Henry rifle, but I must admit that I don't want to drive 60 miles to the nearest outdoor gun range so I can fire it. Yes, I'd like a new F-150 (gasoline-powered), but I must admit that I no longer do things that would require ownership of a pickup. Yes, I'd like a new Harley Road Glide for weekend runs from DFW to the Texas Hill Country, but I must admit that I'm no longer athletic enough to be a safe rider.

So for me, "wanting things" is a ride in the Way-Back machine to a time when I DID enjoy those things.

When I stop wanting those things, it'll be an admission that I'm "OLD." So, I'll keep fantasizing as long as I can. As Clint Eastwood noted to Toby Keith, "Don't let the old man in."
Just a few minutes ago I read Clint's same quote. Funny to read it twice in five minutes. I'm 72 and have always stayed active fishing, boating, hiking, cutting wood to heat our house. Stay active and have a positive attitude (hard these days) and "Don't let the old man in!"

Yeah I'm actually considering an M109 as my old man bike. I could never dignify anything as useless as a cruiser before!!! I like to think I'm pretty modern in my tastes though. This is my current ride.

Signing up for Medicare soon, and never thought that I’d make it here. Live fast, die young and have a good-looking corpse!" This is what I thought. Watched family and friends die way too young. Still here, alive and kicking. Looking forward to retiring in about 2 years, moving back east to spend time with grandsons.
