About two years ago the old Chevy SUV finally convinced me it had to go. Seems like every 90 days it had to visit the mechanic. I used to do a lot of my own mechanical stuff (God blessed me with a dad who did all of his even did rods and rings in his old flat head) but newer cars, most of it is beyond me and I am too old to be crawling around on the ground. Reliability had also become an issue. Any way tried to price out low milage used cars or trucks and YIKES. My son said look at the Ford Maverick. Base model was perfect. Hated the idea of car payments though. After almost two years love it. It's all the truck I need rides nice, good gas milage and reliable. I know in a few years that one will become as issue, maybe. I didn't get the hybrid. The battery stuff scared me away along with the CV tranny.

I think the Maverick is an excellent choice for those who need a light duty truck. Unfortunately for me it comes up a little short on towing capacity.

One thing that has always puzzled me is, why did they recycle the name of a car for it rather than reusing the name of their prior compact truck , the Courier?

That's a nice ride for sure! I'm still driving my 98 Chevy Silverado Z71 that I bought new. It has just under 90,000 miles on it and runs too good to let go. Some rust is finally showing up on it, but not bad for living in Iowa. Would like something a little smaller though. Where I live 4 wheel drive is a necessity.

Unibody, the Ford Escape is the vehicle the Maverick was built using its basic components.

wow you where able to just go out and buy one ? took us just over a year wait on ours to get built and delivered. ours is a hybrid and we did buy an extended warranty , purchased right at the time of sell , I usually don't go that route but with all the battery stuff and the CV tranny , might be a good idea , wife made it her daily driver , She loves it , it's doing at least 40mpg. I was a little worried about how it would do in Wi winters but a extra set of rims will really good snow tires and she had No problems last winter

Looks almost too nice. Hope you don't dirty the bed. :) I am an old vehicle lover. I just sold 34 year old 1990 Pontiac Grand Am.Drove it for 8 years after buying it for $1200, sold it for $800. It was a cheat because it was a barn find. I got it with 50K original miles. Just had to replace all the rubber (dry rot). This is just to explain another vehicle I have- and it's sort of a combination truck.

1992 GMC with a 1991 Corvette engine and transmission, original truck intake and using a "poor man's blower". Quick as they come. Before another person tells me that it can't have much torque, be it known that it towed a 40 foot trailer up a mountain with no problem whatsoever. Admittedly not a great handler in the winter (rear wheel drive) that 40 square feet of bed gives me plenty of room for my scrap copper and dead wood (I have a big firepit). SInce it sucks gas, I mostly use it for short distances or special hauls. Since it's old I can customize it any way I want whenever the mood strikes.

I have a 2024 Hybrid Mavrick and am very happy with it from all angles! Gas mileage from new to now is right at 47 !! mpg. It is big enough for my Great Pyr dog to ride in comfortably and will carry most anything I might need to move. Ford warranties the hybrid hardware for 10 years/100k miles so that should not be an issue. The hybrid battery is only 1.1kw so is unlikely to start a fire or have any other issues. The battery is self recharging via the brakes and the alternator and does not require a plug in for recharging. Not as fast as my previous F150 with the twin turbo V6 but it is not terribly slow! Good luck with your new ride.

As long as you don't plan on towing or carrying much more than groceries in the bed you'll do fine.

By the way do you know how to tell if a unibody had done much heavy hauling or towing? Check the body lines. You'll see sags and twists in the body. And that happens overtime even if you don't exceed and manufacturers specs.
