Simply catching up with the rest of the world in my eyes. When I was over seas in 1983 or so, in Europe they had bill boards on the highway with topless women advertising under ware, because that is all they had on. You would never see that here, or at least haven't yet. Every time we pulled into port our XO would have a little meeting with the crew telling us where we could go, where we should go, and also where NOT to go, which of course was where we headed. He then explained that regardless of what we had been told, the beaches were all not nude, just topless. He was right. My point is the world has gotten much smaller as the years have gone by, and other countries have been free spirited shall we say? Not a bad thing, just different, and different doesn't mean wrong. You still try and raise your children to have respect for people, do the right thing, be honest and so on.
The circumstances are a little different, but things are different in different places and change as time goes on. I raised two kids with the question of "parental controls" with the internet. My wife and I discussed it and decided if they are not at home looking at stuff, they will be at a friends house or somewhere else. We can not stop them from looking nor can we protect them outside our house from what is on the internet. We can tech them and try and instill our values in them and monitor best that we can. We explained all of this to our kids when the time was right and always had their passwords so we could monitor what they were doing.
Some say snooping, some say violation of their privacy. I say my kids, my way. This is how we chose to do it. Others have there ideas, fine, raise your child your way. I'm raising mine the best that I can with the times being what they are.
It is not easy in todays world and I do believe we are having to deal with a lot of things our parents could never even for see.
Don't get me wrong, I am not promoting it, I agree with you. But without being able to control it, all I can see to do, is prepare my kids best that I can.
