I just found a needle in a Haystack!!!!

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Yeah, that sounds like him, used to live in PA and then moved to AZ. Might have been another stop in his journey between PA and AZ, I forget.

Notice that the Ruger eagle on the envelope is the first style with 11 feathers. It changed to 9 fairly soon after, I think in the 1950s. To my mind, the scribbling on the envelope was the OG buyer's tracking of the Railway Express shipment, must have been from calling some office on his rotary phone!

These articles from the 1990's were with it when I bought it and also when I sold it. Were they still with it?

Now that's a heck of a good one to get. Congrats! I'd love to have one,, but my pockets aren't that deep. Maybe one day I'll find a little old widow lady who says; "My husband had these old guns & I want them gone,, what'll you give me?" And among the guns will be a salt cod boxed gun! :D

(A guy can dream,,, right?)

The obit says he grew up in DC did three years in the Army and then moved to NH, making him 21+ish for the move.
I would bet this is not your guy, he would have been 16 and still in school in DC in 1949 when the gun was shipped.
Maybe an Uncle?
Just my observation.
Fun to research!
Keep us posted.
Cheers,
JAYDAWG
