After a brief exchange in a previous thread with Terry, the tentative purchase of a S&W 1911 Compact Pro .45 ACP has been cancelled. Necessary funds have now been transfered towards the in stock purchase of this fine piece: http://www.gunblast.com/images/Ruger-SR1911CMD/DSC07297.JPG
I had the opportunity to examine this weapon, and now I understand what all the rave is about. As a first time buyer in the state of Mass. there is a considerable wait, which is beyond my control. Be that as it may, once I take possession. Further assessment shall follow Thanks Terry.

I like those, have to see them on your gun.

Well I picked the SR1911 CMD up this morning. Soon as I got home I loaded up two Wilson 8 rd. mags and put up a target at 12 yds.
These are the first 16 rds. I fired, all those out of the group was just plain me. Going to get better acquainted this week-end.

Thought you could look at these till yours gets released,,
Best,
Terry

Very nice choice, you will not be disappointed

Yeah yeah yeah .... It'll just end up in the lake like your Ruger P gun with you behind the trigger ..... :D

Hi Rev! LOL, gosh I shudder to think about that ol' P-85 at the bottom of Lake McMurray. My purchase of Ruger's 1911 Commander will be my fourth 1911 I've owned. And it marks the return of my interest in Ruger's semi auto pistol market. The irony of history, is that it was Ruger's adaptation of the Colt Single Action Army that actually put Ruger on the scoreboard, via their legendary Blackhawk revolvers. It appears Ruger has now done it again. This time around it's with their own rendition of the tried and true 1911 platform. Judging by sales demand, Ruger again has batted another one out of the ballpark with the Ruger 1911. I along with many others couldn't be happier. It's good to be back, and good to hear from you again my friend.

Same here AW !

Put up some targets after you get your new toy.

BTW ... When your arm is cocked and ready to throw that new 1911 in the drink .... Just remember .... I'll give you a hundred bucks for it .... :D

Good to see you back !

This is really just an idle curiousity question but how much longer are they going to make you wait Anthony?

There is no waiting period in Mass. You need to get a pistol permit, which can take a long time. It took me years. It is up to the discretion of the Chief of Police, and if he don't want to give out permits, he don't give them.

Once you have the permit, it is just a matter of walking into a gun shop and filling out the paper, and signing on the line. Ed

Dang-I'm sorry I even asked now. I had no idea the laws were that bad up there. I wish you and Anthony the best of luck.

In general, if you live in a city you are out of luck. You might get one for target and hunting. I moved to a Town, and got my renewal for personal protection. So life is good now. But in Mass you can only buy guns off of a list of aproved guns. Ruger is really good at submitting guns for the testing. We usually can't get the limited edition guns from Talo, and such. Also no mags over 10 rounds.

Even though all the .357 mag sp101's are on the list, when they brought the new .22 model out, we had to wait about a year for it to get on the list.

The SR1911 commander was on the list immediately when it was released. It really is a PIA, but could be much worse. Ed

The guns get added to the list whenever MA feels like getting around to it, no matter how early Ruger submits them. So the blame lies somewhere; but it's not on the good guys :?

The states system stinks. I give a lot of credit to Ruger for not giving up on us. Almost every gun they make is on the list, that says a lot.

Colt gave up on us, and refused to submit any guns for testing, which is what the state expected all gun manufacturers to do. Which would have left us with a hand gun ban.

I'm not sure how we got so off track, but my opologies to the OP, for the hyjacking! :D Ed

We're extra lucky as we've got TWO lists! The gun has to be on BOTH lists to be sold in Massachusetts. That's one of the items that GOAL is trying to get changed (good luck with that...)

The permit issue, likewise, GOAL has been working hard at collecting data on people's experiences both with initial application and renewals. Good luck there, too.

If you're 'legal', the purchase process is quick and easy. I purchased my 1911 when Carl, of Four Seasons, called my bluff - "We've got one with your name on it."

Thanks Phoenix,

I apply for a purchase permit at the end of this month. (Aug.) Another $100. for me to fork out, just so I can wait some more. Good grief, I hope I don't die of old age before I'm approved.
