Still say you all work way too hard. All that lifting and straining along with getting gas all over your paint, not to mention yourself. Man invented pumps for a reason.
Correct and you can get a two for one deal on Amazon. I have a spare in my storage shed in case the one goes to crap. For the price, they can't be beat.Still say you all work way too hard. So, you heft up the big can and pour gas from the big can into the smaller can to use it? How much simpler can it get than to stick the pump into the big can and stick the hose into whatever you want to gas up? Now comes the hard part, you also have to push the "on' switch. By the way, the big heavy 5 gallon can just sits on the ground.Still too much work. A fellow named Franklin played with a kite and years later a fellow named Edison put Franklin's ideas to good use.
Unscrew lid on can (It's in a carrier higher than the gas tank filler). Take off gas cap. Stick pump suction hose in can. Stick pump outlet hose in gas tank. Plug in pump. No lifting, no straining. Oh, and I fill the cans while they are in the carrier. The only time they come out of the carrier is if some one needs gas and I can't drive up next to them. So, you heft up the big can and pour gas from the big can into the smaller can to use it? The government is always looking for ways to save us from ourselves.it sucks.I have reached the age where Anger is not a feeling that I am easy to exhibit. I usually am able to let things that are annoying go or side step them! BUT….Damn the current state of plastics 5 gallons gas containers!! It takes 1/2 an hour to empty half the contents, because of spouts that have to be depressed, safety buttons that must be pushed in order for the stupid spout to be depressed and impossible for air to flow into the tank to keep a flow going! I have replaced spouts with after market free flow spouts, but that requires making a hole in the opposite corner for air flow and constantly trying to come up with a proper seal.
I miss old gas cans!!!!
I guess what pisses me off the most is the nanny state we live in now!! The government feels it must pass laws regarding gas can safety to protect us, but they don’t protect us from the mass illegal influx of God only knows who is crossing our southern borders!!!
I, too, have all the same issues. I have a lot of old-style gas cans that I keep going when the spouts wear out.I just ordered two racing cans with separate vents…. see if those work
I still have one of these from the old days. Best can ever made. Broad footprint, not very tall, very stable, nearly impossible to tip over. Sure wish I'd bought more of the good cans when I saw this crap coming when CA started banning real cans, but I could still get good cans in other states.Definitely a pain. I have 6-7 cans that I use through out the year. Tough to use in vehicles that have the fill cap under license plates, especially the ones that LP cover lifts up like the ‘72 Charger. Depending on the can, you‘re going to have a gallon or so left that you can’t pour in. Luckily I have a couple older cans I picked up at Napa in the early ‘80s that are holding up. I use them only for “tough to access” situations.

I have this type and you can get an extension tube for it that allows me to empty the gas into the pickup, if it is getting too old.I use these. Place the nozzle in the tank and push the button. No muss no fuss. Tractor supply or amazon. They're not cheap, but work great unless you back over it with your truck. 😞

PS - you can also but blue colored "water" cans that have a proper vent. You still have to either modify or replace the spout, though. See link. I have a couple of those, too.
Blue "water" cans
I can handle a 5 gallon, filling it at the gas station and lifting it into my van. When it comes to my tractors, lifting it over both loader frames and holding it there and pouring out of it is a no, no. Plus, I have a bad left shoulder. My primary doc sent me to an Orthopedic Surgeon, the other day. Primary doc was giving me cortisone shots which helped my shoulder a lot but not so much on the last injection. The orthopedic surgeon has me scheduled for an MRI so he can see if he can do something by arthroscopic surgery. I told him a total shoulder replacement was out of the question for me.Pumps drip gas all over everything. If you can't lift a 5 gallon can get a 2.5. what could be simpler? I have bought preban cans and some adaptor nozzles so all my cans have spouts and vents one way or the other. I'm apparently not as old as some of you though, a 5 gallon can is still pretty easy at 58.
