Each October I start to fill my 18 5gal generator fuel jugs with fresh non-ethanol gas treated with Stabil and Sea Foam

Through the summer I grab a 5gal Gen can and top up a car by just dropping the Tera pick up hose in the can ..clip the discharge hose to the vehicle gas tank lip and let her rip ..2 minuets and the 5 gal can is dry

Plus I have a couple of pieces of equipment that you need a transmission funnel to gas them ..but no more

I have yet to replace the 4 AA batteries and in 2 years have pumped over 200 gallons

If you want you can retrofit a vent, not hard to do and you can get the parts at any hardware store. Use a small male-male tubing connector, drill the can and thread the connector and then cap the other end. Loosen or remove the cap when pouring.

Or, drill the vent hole and plug it when not in use with an automotive panel plug.

Now the only vehicle I've put gas into from "cans" in years is my Jeep. I have a double can rack on the back and it's higher than my he fill spout.

I started using an ordinary syphon. But I get impatient. So I got a 12 volt pump that has a high output rate. A few pieces of tubing and a cigarette lighter plug and while others cuss I have a snack and soda.

Why not try to syphon from the can)

I have reached the age where Anger is not a feeling that I am easy to exhibit. I usually am able to let things that are annoying go or side step them! BUT….Damn the current state of plastics 5 gallons gas containers!! It takes 1/2 an hour to empty half the contents, because of spouts that have to be depressed, safety buttons that must be pushed in order for the stupid spout to be depressed and impossible for air to flow into the tank to keep a flow going! I have replaced spouts with after market free flow spouts, but that requires making a hole in the opposite corner for air flow and constantly trying to come up with a proper seal.
I miss old gas cans!!!!
Don't buy them then.

I have several of those and it doesn't solve the problem, only creates a new one because of the lack of air displacement. I would like to find a can or jug with an actual cap on the opposite side of the spout like we use to have!!!
Drill a hole over there where you want it and put a screw in it.

Or just take the whole "spout" off and pour it straight in the funnel from the can.

And I like them. Best, easiest and safest cans I've ever used.;)View attachment 21537

They won't work on either my truck or Explorer. The spout is too short to reach either of the filler necks without using a funnel. With my old 5gal jerry cans I just put the screw on spout in the filler neck and rotate the can upside down. Quick fill and no mess. Two cans are strapped down in my truck all the time.

i've tried those from tractor supply and they don't work, If the spout and vent are in the same tube it's way to slow. The container is always gasping for air if you have it inverted, upside down pouring
The spout and vent are separate. Installed correctly you get a smooth, consistent flow with no "gulping". I've used them for many years. Oh well, good luck to you.

These 'safety' cans/spouts are designed to only work on new cars with 'safety' thingies that keep you from doing things that you never did in the 60-70 years you have been driving; you know what I mean...those beeps and flashing lights that distract you when you are in a high-speed traffic situation. You can now buy them in a package deal with your kid's bicycle helmet that we never needed before either.

IMHO,

You can get the old style vent caps on Ebay. And as yall know the old style spouts are still sold as well. At the hardware store, Ebay or Amazon. But to be honest, at $15 for a spout, someone is making a butt load of money on a 50 cent plastic blow mold

I had the same problem, we all do. I drilled a hole and tapped it 1/4-20 and screwed a thumb screw in the hole. Then I got tired of losing the thumbscrews so I bought some gas-can vents on Amazon. They look like a tire valve stem and are easy to install. Solved all my problems. If you are really in a rush you can hook an air hose and blow the gas out.

I've got medical stuff going on with my hands & arms, so I have trouble filling mowers, ATV's, snowblowers, etc from 5 gallon cans. Bought one of these cheap transfer pumps and life got easier.

Since we are complaining about gas cans,, one of my peeves is the very short spout nozzles they now have. Try turning up a can, on the side of a vehicle, and have enough nozzle to go properly into a tank.

But,, I too dislike the stupid way they have made gas cans to NOT properly vent & such.
