I have reached the age where Anger is not a feeling that I am easy to exhibit. I usually am able to let things that are annoying go or side step them! BUT….Damn the current state of plastics 5 gallons gas containers!! It takes 1/2 an hour to empty half the contents, because of spouts that have to be depressed, safety buttons that must be pushed in order for the stupid spout to be depressed and impossible for air to flow into the tank to keep a flow going! I have replaced spouts with after market free flow spouts, but that requires making a hole in the opposite corner for air flow and constantly trying to come up with a proper seal.
I miss old gas cans!!!!

I have several of those and it doesn’t solve the problem, only creates a new one because of the lack of air displacement. I would like to find a can or jug with an actual cap on the opposite side of the spout like we use to have!!!

The link Hittman posted solves your problem. The spouts come with a vent that is installed opposite from the spout. I use similar ones that I buy at Tractor Supply.

I have two of these old cans. One I've had for about 40 years, the other I picked up at a garage sale for $2. I'm always looking for more.

i’ve tried those from tractor supply and they don’t work, If the spout and vent are in the same tube it’s way to slow. The container is always gasping for air if you have it inverted, upside down pouring

I have many tractors and associated petro powered equipment. I buy spouts and vents from Amazon. Hittman posted a link to similar parts. Note that it says with vent.
Drill a hole in the end opposite the spout, PUT EPOXY around the hole, pop the vent in the hole, screw the nozzle on and you are back in the '80s Brother!

I use these. Place the nozzle in the tank and push the button. No muss no fuss. Tractor supply or amazon. They're not cheap, but work great unless you back over it with your truck. 😞

Yes, they will work, but slowly in my experience. Anytime your asking a container to vent though the liquid out the spout that’s pouring and you have the container totally upside down it’s going to gulp air slowing the emptying process

Some brands of motor oil come in red one gallon plastic jugs with simple, resealable plastic lids, like gas cans used to have. I’ve seen people use them for other petroleum based liquids. ;)

ETA: This practice is probably dangerous and illegal and shouldn’t be tolerated
