Yesterday was shootin' day. This morning is cleaning day. I even remembered to wipe the blood off. Recognize this? It's the 1911 tattoo ( bestowed by the original 1911 design). If you don't have one you ain't a real 1911 shooter. ;) :devilish:

Gunny, your hand looks remarkably like mine.

I've only ever had one 1911 bite me like that--a 1966 Commander that I rebuilt from junk. Which reminds me, I have a 1911A1 grip safety that needs to be installed on it--I should get that done soon. I have standard 1911A1 grip safeties on all my other 1911s and they're no problem at all. No "beavertails" for me--I consider them ugly.

Now the Walther PPK is another story. That one WILL bite with slide rails if you're not careful.:mad:

All hands are not created equal. I've never been bitten by any pistols. My first experience with a 1911A1 was overseas. It was simply handed to me by a fellow that was leaving (I did the same when I left, dang it). I had another guy show me how to load, fire, field strip and clean it. From then I was on my own. Worked really good when needed.

I agree.
You should try the PP though …. Never a “bite” from my PP. Hands down the best 380 I’ve ever owned.
I have a PP, same thing, maybe not quite so bad.

I also have a CO2 PPK airgun that bites as bad as the real one. "Authentic blowback action" indeed!

A 97 Winchester will do about the same thing except it bleeds more. Only done it once though.
Yes they do !! My Grandfather gave me a 97 12ga when I turned 16. It was his Dads. Very first time I shot it I got bit. LOL Happened a few other times too. Slow learner I guess ? Still have that gun. Just don't shoot it. Things have gotten real loose on it.

It's only happened to me with two guns -- a Walther PPK, and a High Power. The 1911 has always looked like it should do the same, but for some reason it never has.

The only pistol that ever did that to me was the Walther PPK.... I guess some of us have our limitations....
I remember seeing some sort of "real crime" TV show about 20 years ago where a middle-aged couple was murdered. The murder weapon was a PPK. The main suspect was, I think, their son, but they had no witnesses and very weak circumstantial evidence. They showed a photo of him in handcuffs and the distinctive "PPK tracks" were clearly visible on the web of his hand. This was never mentioned on the TV show, but I knew exactly what I was looking at.

the 1923 update fixed a lot of issues. good idea.
but still, i got bit on a1's now and then.
fyi, im amazed at how many people are fascinated with the m97. the m12 cured the bite issue , but now everyone wants to go back to the pain97. lol.

So did I. I have a Hungarian P35 clone that bit me worse than anything else I've ever shot. I ended up replacing the rowel hammer with a spur hammer, which cured the problem completely, and it's now one of my favorite guns to shoot (with a .22LR conversion kit). I don't like its looks as much as the original, but hey, you gotta go with what works, right?

I understand that the new Springfield Armory SA35 doesn't have the bite problem--they redesigned the rowel spur in some way such that it looks the same, but doesn't bite. If they ever make those hammers available, I'll get one.

Gunny, I held my hand up to your picture and formed it like yours and it was almost a dead perfect duplicate. That's why my 1911's, other than my CMP 1911 now have beavertail grip safeties :)

That tat don't bother me. It's not painful at all, just a little nostalgia kiss. I didn't even notice until I'd finished 4 mags. :)
