First you have to lose it. This is easily accomplished by forgetting that the hammer plunger is spring loaded when removing the retaining pin.

The hammer plunger is usually found in the most distant corner of the room, usually behind some furniture. Search as long as you want to on hands and knees with flashlight and magnet through the carpet, it will not be found.

After 10 minutes of this I decided to take a look inside the hammer plunger hole. That is where to find them.

I don't even look for them. Sometimes I find parts I lost a long time ago if I do look
If you don't have a spare hammer plunger spring you can use the spring out of a bic lighter. They need to be cut but work great. It was suggested by Iowegan some time ago.

There is a reason I have extra springs and screws on hand before I take any gun a part. If I don' launch a spring I get down to the last screw and slip with the screwdriver and bugger the slot.
