Used blued New Model Ruger Super Blackhawks with 7½ inch barrels are found at every gun show and in every gun store by the bushel basket.

At $200 a copy...

How many should one have ?

One in each pickup truck.
One on each tractor.
One in each saddle bag.
One in each barn.
One in each room in the house including the bathrooms.
One in your wife's pocketbook.
One in...

From light 44 Special loads substituting for 22 rimfires to 1,000 fps loads for defense to full house loads for making noise...

Is there any better all purpose gun than a Super Blackhawk ?

The last one I purchased in the $200 range was back in the early 1980's. It appears, at least in this part of the world, the price has been going up.....

More like $450 for this old beater.....and that was 6 or 7 years ago.

I'd love to find one of those $200-$300 beater Old Models. I'd chop the barrel off to 4 5/8" and stick an XR3 grip frame on it!

I wish I could find these gun shows, the ones I go to seem to have old worn out beaters with asking prices about twenty dollars less than new. I haven't gotten a good deal at a show in years.

Not finding any old beaters...

Only finding guns that look like they have been fired maybe one cylinder full and have a little holster wear.

our store says that the average guy buys one, gets tired of packin it after one campout, and trades it in for something smaller.

Which works out well for me

New Models...... Cheap? Now I like that! I have a few but don't remember them being cheap either... There was a consecutive serial number set and that Bisley .... I REMEMBER! There was a 7.5 inch stainless gun with a XR3-RED but it was $350....

You probably meant that tongue in cheek, but I'd be careful about having unsecured firearms laying around.
It is a great gun. I'd love to find a decent beater for $200!

I'd probably go for the 9.5" SRH for the wife's pocketbook though (maybe one with a scope on it). 8)

One in each hand and one more in a shoulder holster for a backup. :D

The SBH is, without a doubt, the best quality, most useful, and least expensive non-combat centerfire handgun ever made.

I think of the SBH as the gun that Sam Colt would have made, if he had thunk of it. He came pretty close to the SBH with the Dragoons, but failed to bring them into the cartridge era. The ".475 Long Colt" might could have changed history.

I have a flock (or is it a herd?) of SBHs from 4-5/8" to 10-1/2" in blue and stainless and would have a hard time picking any one of them as my favorite over another.

This one would be hard to ignore for the "If you could have only one handgun" question:
