Hi,
My experience with LGSes in my little part of the world is that for every good one, where the folks who own/run the place understand why they're there, we'll have a handful who think they're doing the public a great service by simply unlocking the doors once in a while.
For reasons beyond me, it seems too many gun shop personnel think it's their business to inform the public of their own personal feelings on anything from 2A issues to the LBGTQ types, despite the fact a whole lot of customers really don't give a rat's patootie about such stuff. They're there to buy a gun, some ammo, reloading supplies, accessories, all things they can get somewhere else without the pontification. Give 'em their stuff, take their money, thank them kindly, and get on with the day. Simple concept, no?
And it's everywhere in the country, best I can tell. Several years ago, I bought a CZ-75B pistol, and soon learned about their excellently reviewed .22 LR conversion kit, the Kadet kit which slips right on. I went on a quest to find one, learning instead CZ hadn't yet caught on to how big the market for such an item might be, so the supply was scarce, and pricey (it's still pricey, though less scarce.)
Anyway, I found a shop online, in GA, who said they had one. It's a "part" by law, so it can be shipped anywhere in the US without paperwork. I called and got a hold of Billy Bob Bubba his very own self. I knew the part could be shipped to CA, and told him what I wanted, where I wanted it sent, and asked how much over the $285 price tag he needed to ship it so we could get it on its way. Instead of answers I needed, I got 15 minutes of bull malarkey about how screwed up CA is. Finally I interrupted and asked how often he sold almost $300 worth of merchandise in 15 minutes. "Well, not very often, we're not that busy."
I then told him he'd just missed a beautiful chance to do so for the day. "I don't get it," he replied. All I said was "No, Sir, you sure don't" as I hung up. I only wish his type was a rarity. In my experience, it's not... and soon enough, another company had the kit without the crap. And they even got more of my money than I'd been prepared to offer BBB.
Despite this, there's still good in the world, too: a buddy lost the choke tube wrench for his Benelli shotgun in a move, and wanted a factory replacement for it (a bit nicer tool than most aftermarket versions plus it says "Benelli" on the handle, which is probably what he really wanted anyway.) He'd looked and looked, to no avail. With his birthday coming up, I figured I'd give it a try. I found what seemed to be the only one in the entire country, at a fairly large gun shop in PA. In less time than it took BBB to tell how screwed up CA is, I felt like family with the fellow on the phone. We even discussed some of the problems out here regarding guns to which he said, "We wish you guys luck out there, cuz we don't want to see the same things happen here," and judging by how quickly it arrived, I think he had the tool wrapped up and labeled while we talked. He got it! If only we could clone him and his shop!
Back to the OP, I've never dealt with Bud's, but a local pawn shop says Bud's is the best online company they deal with, so patience is probably a worth while practice, even if it's not a virtue!
