Technically this isn't the correct place to post this, since it's more of a rifle (carbine to be exact), but it IS a semiauto, and it's more in line with Rugers semiauto pistols than any of Ruger's rifles, except the new AR thing ... I forget the name.

Some of you guys and gals may want to check it out.

I actually shot one over the weekend, having ZERO idea it even existed. I'll tell you ... this was one of the neatest and most fun rifles I have ever had the pleasure of shooting. It was deadly accurate at 50 yards with open sights (about a 2 inch 10 round group), worked absolutely flawlessly, and brought a hell of a smile to my face.

Normally I'd hear the word Hi-Point, and laugh and scoff it off as a total piece of junk. I started doing a little research on it and it seems that it has a fairly big following, ESPECIALLY with the new 'tactical stock', which has 3 picatinny rails for optics, a front handle that's vertical underneath the handguard, and the right side for a light or bayonet or whatever. The tactical stock has 3 springs in the rear for recoil reduction, although 9mm recoil is pretty much nonexistent anyway. The old model's stock is hideous ... looks like it was made from a bunch of melted down tires, but the mechanicals are the same between the two.

It's a 9MM, and supposedly a 45 is in the works. Any of you guys that like this type of rifle should check it out. Do some research if you like. I have one on hold for me at Cabelas. How much is this little gem ???

$250, and Cabelas has a $70 off $300 coupon that will make the gun $180 if you buy another $50 to get to the $300 threshhold.

Check it out. When I get mine I'll post better pics.

This little thing is awesome. If you shoot one, I can practically guarantee that you'll buy one. These things have been out about a week, and from what I've heard, no one can keep them in stock they're so popular.

Anybody else know about this thing ???? I'm picking mine up tommorrow.

I used to have a hi-point 995 with an ATI "body kit" stock. (NOTE: this is the one that makes it look like a Beretta CX4)

Picture of it:

The 995 is one of the most inexpensive yet surprisingly reliable and accurate carbines i have ever heard of. I sold mine off to a friend because I needed money, BUT that said I may have it back soon enough.

I'll tell ya DA, when my buddy practically begged me to shoot his over the weekend I wasn't really interested at all, but I succumbed and tried it out. Needless to say, I was just blown away. It's accuracy offhand was incredible. Easy to shoot, totally flawless functioning, and actually good looking for a HP with the new stock. Cabelas has a special configuration that includes the factory front hand grip that projects DOWN from the front handguard, which my friend's didn't have, for the same money.

Funny because I didn't even know HP even MADE carbines as I had never heard of it before. Did a little research, and found that these things are incredibly popular among people who know about them.

Just thought I'd pass the info on in case anyone here's looking for a cheap 9MM carbine.

Here is a picture of my HP 995 Classic with ATI stock and some other mods. I have about 1000 rds with no problems. I have a new 995TS however no pics yet. Also have a HP4095 on order but they are not being mfg yet. The 995 is my favorite weapon to fire other than my MKIII 22/45.

LOL !!! Sorry 'bout that DA, maybe you'll be satisfied to see pics of my NEW ONE tommorrow night !!! Yeah ... that'll help ....

Sorry again.

Hey CAS !!! I like devils !! LOL.

What happened / was wrong with it ?? Any idea CAS ?

That's the first negative I've heard so far. Could have been a minor problem I would imagine. Mine won't be for HD anyway ... more of a range toy.

Thanks for the info !

Well, it looks like I won't be getting the Hi-Point today after all. It turns out Cabelas will not honor the $70 off coupon that I have since I ALREADY used one last Tuesday to buy a Henry lever action 22. I even asked them if I could use 2 of the coupons prior to putting it on hold, and was told YES.

I'll have to wait for the next dollar off coupon to buy it. I don't want it bad enough to pay $250 for it, but I'd pay $180 with the $70 off coupon. LOL.

I WILL be getting it as soon as they mail me another coupon.

Glad I didn't drive the 60 miles without calling to make absolutely sure I could use it ... I would have been really pissed if I got out there and they told me no.

IIRC the firing pin broke. They said that they would fix it free of charge, he just didn't want to mess with it.

It was a plinker for him years ago, but he hadn't used it in a long time. He only kept it as a house gun for his wife because it was simple to use and she shot it well. But after taking it out for that match and finding out it didn't work, he realized he couldn't trust it. Understandably so.

Yeah, I agree it's tough to trust a gun after a mechanical failure like that. One good thing is that your report is the ONLY report of any kind of failure with the 995 that I've heard SO FAR. That certainly doesn't mean that there are no others. I'm going to keep researching it, and when I get another coupon, I'll pick one up then. I still think that they're a great deal, even at $250, but I just don't need one that badly to pay the $250 rather than $180 with the coupon.
