I have had a Security-Six since the early 80's as a daily carry sidearm.
I recently purchased a Blackhawk in 45LC to complement my other 45LC firearms.
I got it home and on closer inspection the serial number is only 5 digits.
Yes its early and based on the ammo boxes, probably realistically only fired 40 times?(guesstimated)
My basic question is, this early would it originally have come with the 45ACP cylinder also?

welcome to the forum,,,sounds like a nice gun but unless it came with the original cardboard shipper which would be marked to show what it is, you would need a factory letter to let you know what it actually shipped as, the letter "X" designates it was a convertible..........you say "5" digits??? they started with a #45 prefix, and at #45-00001 which is more than 5 digits....and I recall the RENE said they started at convertibles around #45-00111 in 1971.....so in the "Old model of like three years could be up to #45-23031 .... again per the 'RENE' (Red Eagle News Exchange);)

Yes, #45-09XXX which would according to what you posted may possibly have been a Convertible?
How do I contact Ruger for a Historical search?
Thanks!

Thanks Everyone!
I guess my next thought is, "should I be shooting this" or keep it pristine because it is such an early "Old Model"?
Because I still haven't figured out if it is going to gain in value or not?

My first revolver was a GP-100 back in the late 80s. The only thing I regret about it is that I had it drilled and tapped for a scope base before I realized I didn't want glass on a revolver.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like it would be a nice Blackhawk. On your question to preserve it or shoot it, unless it has all the trimmings, box papers etc and is without flaws, it would be a good gun to shoot. Just keep it clean and oiled., don't drag it down a gravel road. It's made to use and enjoy.
