Help Needed from the Grip Makers

Just bought a little beater .32 Single Six Bisley with a beautiful set of burl walnut grips on it. Unfortunately the left grip has a 1/2" crack in it at the top, just above where the emblem would be (if they were factory grips). There is a very small gap in one part of the crack with a minute amount of missing wood. I have considered drilling or sanding some other walnut, mixing the dust in with some epoxy and filling the gap to stop further cracking and cover the up the flaw. Anyone have any better suggestions?

I've used that technique several times on wood and bone knife handles with good results. Don't see why it wouldn't work on grips.

mountain_cowboy, Your on the right track for fixing that grip. Also, I have used various stains with that wood dust to get a very good match when repairing gun wood......................Dick :idea:

I prefer 1-1/8 oz. of 7-1/2 shot, but that's just me.

If the crack is through-and-through, try dental floss.

if you use epoxy put as much on as you need to fill the crack heat it up with a hair dryer and use compressed air to blow it down into the crack.the hair dryer will make it very thin so it will flow all the way into the crack. rap it with surgical tubing to close the crack.don't use any more air than you have to.
