HELP! M77 MKii: Flat black barrel w/ stainless bolt???

So I came across this in my dads safe and he has had it for years but due to his age he can’t remember any of the fine details.

I’m trying to figure out if this was a factory rifle or if the finish has been modified? When I posted it on a local site I immediately got blasted because, “it’s not blued… it’s been cerakoted….” Etc. I ran across some articles online that pointed towards an early all weather model that was being produced around this time.

My dad has never sent guns off for custom work and I know he didn’t cerakote it. He thinks he bought it new but can’t remember.

It’s showing a shipping date of 2004 but when I reference the serial number it pulls as a 2002.

Anyhow can someone help me identify this rifle and learn a little more about it?

That is a nice looking contrast . So all you experts chime in . I love 77s , in my opinion the best shooter / Hunter grade bolt ever built . I have savages , winchesters no rems. And the rugers are still #1 in my book

JMass, welcome to the forum, nice pictures and to me it is a 2002 rifle with the satin blued finish, does not look like 'ceracote' , the bolts are stainless back then, nice scope too....most of the "specials" back then were mainly as to the stocks , finish, camo, etc., and the other barrels were target gray stainless from what I recall...its been some time for us as to the newer guns, but still thats a fine looking rifle..........
by chance is there a box laying around for it somewhere??? it would be white.....and any catalog numbers will be on the end, and has to match that serial number.....

Thank you so much for all of your help! There is no box to be found. There was 1 box of ammo with 3 shell casing and 17 rds of old soft points. It did have a black and red soft case. I’m assuming it sold with the rifle

I am no expert, but some thing's are odd from what i see. m77 mk ii's in 260 rem came in gloss blue wood stock and stainless with synthetic stock. not sure of any 260 rem hawkeye's, they came with the matte finish but yours is not stamped hawkeye and the stock is of the mk ii variant also the bolt shroud is stainless which is also odd blued had stainless bolt but blued shroud could have been mkii stainless somebody cerakoted but why i don't know. you have alot going on there maybe give ruger a call does serial number on bolt match serial number on rifle good luck. great caliber and rifle any way

Serial numbers match. And yes it’s a beautiful gun and awesome caliber. I’m normally Johnny on the spot with these things but I’m stumped here. Thanks for your help!

It appears to be the youth or compact version from the looks of it but I don't ever remember them being sold in flat black. Ruger did release some flat black 77 MK IIs in the VLE models which where heavy barrel 223 and 308 with grey laminate stocks. I know this didn't help much just the info I know but it still looks like a nice rifle so enjoy.
