I cant really say where it was so as to not get the rep in trouble, but am told the .44 special may go into regular production next year. As far as rumors go I would rate this one at 50/50. If this is so, maybe a New Vaquero in the special will be done!

We heard this from folks with an inside track in Newport some time ago, and it wasn't a maybe, it was definite.
Good news!

Now, if they'll do a Flat top in 41 on the 357 frame......

I saw the 2010 catalog at the local gunshop today. The .44 Special is in there, with the NEW label on the right column.

Any more details on the catalog listing? Revolver weight? Does it have the steel grip frame or did they go to aluminium? What barrel lengths?

Sorry for the delay in responding. It is in the catalog under the New Model Blackhawk, and does not appear to be a flat top as the Lipsey's are. The barrel lengths listed are 4 5/8 and 6 1/2. I don't recall the weights, but I'll go by the shop tomorrow and get a catalog.

Beat me to it.

I did notice these anomalies:

These are the only Blackhawks that don't have a catalog number for the lock.

NVB-445 Part number 5233 decodes as a 5½ barrel but the catalog shows 6½ as barrel length.

What's the "V" in the catalog number? Not in the numbers for any of the other Blackhawks.

The V will make it on the mid-sized frame I thought. Using a little cut & paste of the model # and an existing link to a cataloged model on their site, the "5232" and "5233" give results of the current flattop .44 specials.

Hmmm...

I will post it here again, these are the SAME TWO GUNS BEING SOLD BY LIPSEY'S. The 6.5" is a type-o.

Will be interesting to see what actually turns up in the distribution chain.

Not a new technology like the XG1, so I'm more hopeful about this one.

If they don't use the medium frame, don't see a lot of point in having a .44 Special and a .44 Mag both cataloged at the same time in basically the identical configuration. I notice Ruger doesn't list a .38 Special BH.

I am curious.

just an observation, BUT if 6.5" is a typo, then there are two typos.

The 6.5" barrel length is one typo............then the 12" Overall length is another typo.

the difference between the 4 5/8" barrel and OAL lenght of 10.12" is ~5.5.

the OAL for a 5.5" barrel would then be 11", not 12"

Of course they can simply be using a plug and chug calculation to come up with OAL.

Just saying,
