There are other rules that have the same value, such as never buttoning the top button on a shirt unless you are wearing a tie.
Actually, the original purpose of the necktie was to keep the top of the shirt closed. Buttons came along later - and at a higher cost.

This only shows a lack of manners being taught to children since the 60's! Today during the national anthum at public events, people have the be reminded to remove their hats -- and that's shameful!

Talk about making mountains out of mole hills.

There are much more far reaching problems in this world than hats.
Yes, you are quite right. It is only a mole hill. However, it is merely a symptom of other things that ARE mountains.

The family unit has broken down. Our politicians are only interested in "control". The second amendment is in jeopardy. Need I itemize more?

If we can't even show each other enough respect than to take off a hat at the dinner table, and furthermore justify that behavior because "I have the right to do as i please", how can we ever solve all the truly far reaching problems?

In the South & when in civilian clothes, no hats:
Inside of a residential home
At any table for a meal
In Church
In Court
In a Funeral Home
Inside of any building where the host or owner deems it uncouth
Other areas of the Nation may differ

Wearing a hat in a house naturally will not destroy society, but it does indicate to me an attitude in many. The only hat I have that I wear is a knitted Jayne Cobb hate which is warm but hilariously silly looking, it would look worse if I wore it in a house. Bigger question is wearing one in whose house? Your own? Go ahead. Hell, piss in the sink and spit on the floor if you want to, it's your house. My house? Unless we have an agreement to make yourself at home in my home you are showing a lack of manners and respect to my ownership. The same goes for a guest here just walking over to the refrigerator to grab something that doesn't belong to them...do we have the above agreement between us then help yourself otherwise you are behaving as if you have ownership and control of wherever you are. Manners and decorum come to my mind.
Wendy I often tell guests to make themselves at home in my house , if you ever visit I might have to rethink that 😊

Thanks Bob. I didn’t really know what those strings are called.

The hat is actually one of those Tilley hats, made in Canada. Evidently they are elephant proof.

They guarantee that if an elephant eats your hat, all you have to do is follow the elephant around until it “gives” you back your hat. 😀
But do you really want it back? Even if you did put $20 in the crown. 😄

I am kind of surprised that nobody has commented on being able to see well. My eyes are not what they once were. Outdoors sunlight makes it very difficult for me to see well, so I wear a hat with a visor. Indoors, if my wife has the overhead light on I will wear my hat while reading or looking at the computer. If I leave the car to go to a store I usually leave my hat on, but if going in to eat, will leave it in the car as taking it off inside, the table isn't big enough to leave it on the table and I have no place to put it. And if I found a place, I would probably forget it. If you see an old person with a hat on in a place you think he should not be wearing it, please temper your judgement, giving him the benefit of the doubt that it may be so he can see better.

Still applies to my household, Im a younger buck. I wear one inside the shop, so I don't bump my head on material or a machine I don't see. Where I bank, wearing a hat is prohibited.
Wearing a hat is prohibited at your bank? What on earth is their rationalation?

Think I'd look for another bank.

Who would have ever thought that wearing a hat indoors was the cause of the rapid decline of The United States of America.
Wearing hats indoors is not the cause of the rapid decline of the United States of America. Wearing hats indoors is an indication/sign of the rapid decline of the United States of America.

I fully believe that you wearing a hat would not bother anyone. Also, your need to wear one precludes any further debate. You sound like a solid American. The hat wearers commented about in this thread are simply disrespectful people that have no manners.

Wear you hat in good health.
