My Dr's. nurse called me in a refill for an Rx I've used for years. She then called to tell me that my Medicare Rx insurance plan will no longer cover that one and would I like a substitute. No, I've tried substitutes and they didn't work well. How much are you willing to pay if they fill the Rx without insurance? I said about $200. This is for an as needed Rx and not for daily use. She called me back and said it'd be over $200 but didn't know how much over. Why I don't know as any pharmacy tech can simply look it up.

The nurse asked me if I'd ever tried GoodRx. and that it could really help me. www.goodrx.com I got home and in 5 minutes had a coupon emailed to me. I called and told the pharmacy to fill the Rx and I had a GoodRx coupon. They told me the cost would be $45.69, just like it showed on their website. When I picked it up today it would have cost me $207.15.

In literally 5 minutes or less I saved $161.46.

When I went to the pharmacy I showed them my emailed GoodRx coupon and they said they already had it  I think GoodRx narrowed my pharmacy down by my name and birthday because I don't recall entering the pharmacy I use.

Anyway, it's a super easy to use website. It's doesn't cover all Rx's and strengths, but it's worth a try, and it just saved me over $160!

My Dr. just mentioned costplusdrugs.com and markcubancostplusdrugcompany.com to me. I'm not a big fan of Mark Cuban, but this sounds like a good thing.

My comparison of something I may have to start taking. Note: I have not dealt with them yet.
Kinney Drugs.......... $456 / 60 count after our insurance.
Good RX.......... $106 w/free discount / 60 count.
Costplusdrugs.com.......... $71.40 / 60 count.

I use it, the Gold Rx version with a monthly fee, It saves even more. We have decent insurance but I find Good RX / Gold Rx is at times cheaper than using the insurance. When I pick it up I check the p[rice before they ring it up and if it seems high I request they check the Gold Rx price. Some times insurance is cheaper sometimes Gold Rx. Example; just refilled a 90 day supply of an anti inflammatory, on Insurance 42.xx with Gold RX 23.xx

I signed up with them a couple years ago because The Lovely Mrs. Snake was on about 8 prescriptions and we had no other health insurance besides Medicare. Had to pay some sort of fee, I forget how much. Before we got around to using it, she managed to sign up with a plan she liked (and which seems to be working for her). I called up GoodRX to cancel. They didn't give me any crap at all, I mean none, and even refunded my initial fee since we'd never used it, and I didn't even ask for that as I didn't think of it. The person I spoke with couldn't have been nicer about the whole thing. I would have NO problem signing up with them again if I ever had the need.

The only MINOR downside I saw to the program was that when you looked up the prescription prices on their website for several drugs, the lowest prices might be at four or five different stores, which seems like it might be a big inconvenience.

I'm on four or five prescriptions myself now. I've just been getting them for the "one price" at Walmart which seems pretty fair and IS convenient for me.

I have used a couple times over the past year when my Medicare drug coverage price was actually higher than that of RX. Saved a lot. I have little need for prescription meds, but when I need them I always check the Medicare copay against Rx.

I did when I first got out of the hospital ... one of my RX's was $800+ a month and I could get it with GoodRX for $43...
now to say it, it shows that the whole prescription system is a scam in itself....

The negative about GoodRX is that they collect and sell your data. Dozens of companies are involved and NO HIPPA does not apply. Just so you know.

We have a Medicare supplement plan that we pay $0 a month, plus they deduct $30 a month from my Medicare premium. It includes Part D prescriptions at very affordable rates.

Just for information I compared our monthly med costs and Good RX was more expensive.

We use it all the time and have saved a lot of money. Kroger Pharmacy now has their own plan and will no longer use Good Rx in the near future. Their plan is just as good and free also. It's called Visory Health.

I'm not on any prescriptions either, but I did need to get a prescription (non renewable) filled around 8 months ago.

GoodRx was more expensive than my Medicare price.

I ran a private Christian school several years ago and had to provide my own health insurance, went with Samaritan which is cost sharing. They do not have drug coverage so I started looking and came across GoodRX. I had retired from public education and had BCBC for a while including drug plans. When I was getting close to running out of insurance I started pricing my drugs, of which I take 3. I was surprised to find out I could actually buy the prescriptions cheaper with GoodRX than I could with the BCBC insurance. Since then, I was in a BCBS group once again for 3 years and now on Medicare. My wife and I still price medications with GoodRX and a couple others and that allows us to get a Medicare Drug plan for $7 a month and little to no deductibles.

Bottom line is we are not being good stewards of our own money if we don't look into these plans EVERY time we get a prescription. Another example, I have a lung disease that requires me to use a really old, seldom used antibiotic called erythromycin. The drug is rarely used and when I need a refill it has to be ordered. What formerly cost $4 a month is now $400! I could not afford that and went directly to the company and they sold it me for 10 percent of the cost since I didn't have insurance. What a joke all of this is and we can blame the drug companies all we want but the fault, in my opinion lies with congress who creates these laws, rules and regulations and then complains about high costs.
