Tonight and tomorrow are supposed to be the heaviest nights for Perseus meteor showers. I live at the edge of a small city and have a hard time seeing much but did see a few tonight. Watched for about an hour. Anybody else stargaze?

We went out on the deck last night and sat in beach chairs that recline nearly all the way back. We saw a total of three in about 45 minutes. My wife and I each saw two, one each independently and we both saw the other one. It had been overcast and rainy with Debby remnants for several nights and last night was the first clear night. Tonight's forecast calls for more clouds, so we're probably done.

When I lived in El Paso close to 60 years ago, my wife and I went out into the desert to watch the meteor "shower". Seeing a brief streak in the sky every few minutes was not my idea of an exciting evening, and far less activity than I had been led to believe would be occurring. I never bothered trying to see them again. On the other hand, I frequently go out in the evening to watch the International Space Station cross the sky. I get an email from NASA whenever it will be readily visible in my area, and if the sky is clear and the time is not too late in the night I step outside and watch for it. I get a bit of a thrill every time, knowing that the light steadily moving across the night sky is a space station with people inside it. Once or twice I was able to see, with binoculars, the solar panels extending out from the ISS that was 240 miles or so above me.

I did when I was about 7 yo. Then I learned about what happened to the dino's, and that big crater in AZ, and decided not to tempt fate by standing around outside waiting for some high speed rock to take my head off.
I never thought about it. But now I am NOT going outside. Lol.

There usually an archery meet (GLLI) on the weekend of the shower. It's far enough out that the light pollution is far less than home. Whenever I'm there I'll put an hour or so laying on a picnic table watching the sky. It's in a location where I can see a lot of satellites so there's a fair amount of activity to keep your interest.

Best meteor shower story. Lying on the ground at our cabin with my dad watching what seemed like hundreds of meteors burn up as the flashed by. At some point I fell asleep only to wake up in my bed the next morning. Pretty strong memory for a little kid. Did the same with mine.

When I was in a F14 Squadron and deployed we would sometimes lay behind the canopy (area called the Turtle Back) at night and watch the sky...it was like a snow globe but with stars.....and a ton of falling stars was common, and other bright shiny things orbiting over the Indian Ocean....

If it wasn't so overcast last couple days I'd of been out on deck with stogie and bourbon in hand looking up as I often do. Evening brings the bats. Then when dark the stars and airliners heading to/from DWI/Reagan/Dulles....and every now and then you see the patrols protecting Camp David/Site R/FEMA and other places in these woods.....

It was cloudy at our house last night but one of my wife's friends just sent this pic from where my wife used to live on a lake 40 miles south of here. Taken around 2:30 AM this morning. Too bad there was no meteor streaking across the sky:
