Had a bad day yesterday

A fast developing wildfire swept through my homestead, I saved my house but lost a storage building and my shop, tools, and Polaris Ranger. I have 2nd & 3rd degree burns on my left hand and 2nd degree burns on right hand and face. I'm not in much pain but have very limited hand movement due to bandages. Far less than was expected when I was life flighted from the scene. Son and Grandson went to a local hospital after inhaling smoke in the process of burying a smoldering pile of tires. They came out fine thank goodness.
At least today we got 1"+ of soaking rain that will wet down any smoldering spots.

There are some dietary recommendations for patients recovering from burns. Google should provide plenty of guidelines and ideas. Sorry to hear this happened to you. Burns are lame....as is losing your possessions!

That's a very sad thing to hear. Take careful care of the burns, they can be miserable. As mentioned above extra proteins in your diet may help
the healing. Loosing the shop has got to be a blow, can anything in it be salvaged?
Hopefully the insurance company will be cooperating.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. youre likely sick of hearing it but it could have been much worse. Don’t know if that helps but no lives were lost. Keep on top of your burns, don’t let them get infected. Best wishes

Very sorry to hear. Many of my relatives are involved in farming. This year's drought has made things pretty scary out in the country. Was it started by machinery? Some farmers in South Dakota are harvesting with a water wagon or truck nearby, just in case.

Hopefully you will find relief from the pain of your burns. I will pray for you and your family. Glad you all are alive. Stuff can be replaced, lives cannot.

My friend,, it pains me to know you are injured, & suffered a fire. But I'm glad you can heal, and your son & grandson are ok. The loss of the shop & stuff, hopefully your insurance will cover most of it. We all know that you'll still not recover some things. But a life is irreplaceable.

It may not as bad I expected. We talked to the insurance company today and they are 100% cooperative. I was concerned that they might balk since was an onsite burn pit even though there had not been a fire for quite some time. My best guess was something had been covered and smoldering when the blast of wind shook something loose.
Lot's of folks are offering assistance--guess good deeds of the past DO come back around. My local rural electric company sent an oversized crew to replace the meter pole and they spent 1/2 day doing cleanup on top of what was expected. Five strong motivated young men make a LOT of progress in 4 hours. One neighbor delivered a table full of food this evening. From the reports of family members, there's a stack of offers building up that helps me get a better outlook on this catastrophe.
My family has been prominent in this community for close to 150 years. My Son commented that people he'd never seen before were offering help and he was surprised. I just reminded him he had a last name and for many people that was all they needed to know. I'm certainly humbled and proud to see the display of generosity.

Prayers up. Been there done that on the burns. My advice. Pay no attention to the internet. Do EXACTLY what your burn specialist tells you to do. If debriedment is necessary, and it sounds like it will be, it's gonna hurt but done properly it can minimize scaring and possible loss of mobility from same.
