Guess the mystery tool?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

There were lots of exhaust shops locally who worked "after hours" sawing off the catalytic converter, knocking out the honeycomb guts in it and dumping them out, reinstalling and welding the 'vert back on, and hiding the guts offsite in case the shop got raided the next day.

Leaded fuel doesn't hurt a converter that's been replaced by a straight pipe. The reason to do so was leaded was actually cheaper long enough for me to remember as a kid. It was outlawed WAY after converters came along. When it was made illegal for all road cars, it's price skyrocketed. I used "Instead-O-lead" in my Chevelle's 396 until I had titanium seats put in.

It never occurred to me to violate Federal law and put leaded gas into my unleaded car.
Dull response from someone that puts on the facade of being witty.

You don't recall when we had it in certain areas here? I would visit a shop about a mile from the testing facility where the nice mechanic would tune my truck to pass the test, then re-tune it for proper operation on my return trip. 😁
Nope. Never happened in this end of the state. Good thing, because everyone had either the guts knocked out and the cat replaced, or a straight pipe clamped in where the cat used to be.
