Hey Guys,,
I could not make this Gig up if I tried. As a lot of you know Grandson Chad sells Carbon Cubs along with ferrying and doing builder assist building for customers at the factory in Yakama WA.
So he is pretty well known and respected in the CC community by some pretty high $$$ folks. Think Waltons, Wilsons of Wilson Combat and such.
He was contacted by the factory to see if he wanted to go to Dubai to oversee the reassemble and then test flying of the Red Bull CC which has been shipped to Dubai. Since he has an FAA Airframe and Power Plant License he can sign the CC off. He did have to get security clearance since they are going to be working in one of the Prince of Dubai's hangar
He was supposed to fly from Dallas DFW tomorrow first class:) on Emirates nonstop to Dubai. Since DFW is shut down due the ice storm it has been postponed a couple of days.
Now you have to remember that Red Bull does a lot of shall we say strange things for their commercials:) Well this one is no different IMHO. The plan is to land the CC on a 76' Helipad attached to one of those real tall buildings in Dubai. Yes it can be done under certain conditions. The guys flying the CC in the STOL contest land pretty short.
I'm looking forward to hearing about this trip and I will keep you posted.
Jim

Here is one of their commercials. The landing and takeoff is no big deal. It is a cool commercial.

That is so cool Jim! That young man is living his dream ad will never have to look back and say "Dang, I wish I would have ---"! Strek is taking over a squad of cadets at the Academy in June and since he is a pilot they told him had to get certified to teach the small fixed wing plane course. Didn't seem to matter that he flew Pavehawks! He said it is so different getting in a little plane you have to pull the starter cord on like a lawn mower to get it moving versus the big chopper. He says it is almost embarrassing!

Those first class kiosk are nice if you are flying alone... I got to use one on a flight from Atlanta to Salt Lake City a few years back.... the jet had landed in Hotlanta to refuel ... it had come in direct from South Africa. Oh and notice something in the last picture...metal eating utensils...... even two nice metal knives.....

Those Cubs have always been amazing planes. A friend was a forward observation pilot. He could make that old plane stand up and do tricks. Those things will helicopter, fly sideways and all kinds of other craziness. I used to live a few hundred yards from the field he flew out of and he would trim my trees if he saw me out.

That ought be be a great trip. Does he get to stay around while they do the flying and film the
commercial?
Stock CC or did they build a "special" for the filming ?

Jim, that's just pegging the "cool factor" meter. Cub's are great airplanes & for him to be involved in such stuff is great info for ANY pilot's resume'.

Keep us posted.

Cub Crafters has a great reputation and are well thought of here. I live about 5 miles west of the airport and drive by their facility whenever I go into town.

Grandson Chad left Dallas DFW yesterday 2-4 and has arrived in Dubai for his 7-8 day adventure. The Carbon Cub was at the factory, why I do not know. It was disassembled there and shipped to Seattle by truck. The Yakama airport can not handle the 747 cargo plane that is hauling it to Dubai. That's right it has it's own 747 ride. Probably the same 747 that Red Bull uses to ship there Formula Cars and airplanes around the world would be my guess. I don't believe money is a problem with this outfit :)
Thanks for the interest and I will try and keep you updated.
Jim

I don't think he is in a Cub:) I believe that tall building is 2400'+-
