GP100 sight options

I just bought a 6 inch stainless GP100, took it to the range with handloads (158 gr. XTP and 2400) and couldn't be happier. It is more accurate than my four inch Colt Python was, the single action trigger is nearly as good with no creep, but it is a bit heavier in pull weight. I was easily getting around 2 inch. six round groups at 25 yards with the load it liked, with five of six rounds touching.

What are my front sight options? I have a gold bead front and rear "v" notch set from an old Redhawk. Will any of the front sights for the Redhawk work with the GP100 or do I have to use the Super Redhawk sights? Would I be better off simply painting the face of my front sight a bright color to improve its visibility in low light hunting conditions? I'm not interested in any fiber optic beads. Thanks.

Russell420,

Years ago traded in a stainless Python to get a stainless GP100......both had 6" barrels.
Same results as yours, just as accurrate!(got tired of sending the Python back to the factory for fixes.)

As far as front site options go...
I traded my GP100 all black, with my Super RedHawk..orange insert.

Took less than one minute, and worked out great.

There are quite a few sight options at the Ruger store:

The gold bead front sight is long gone. The red insert works well. You can still get a solid black notched rear blade. There are many aftermarket sights for the GP-100 like the Millett orange or white and the Meprolight:

Most of the front sights for the Redhawk will be a little taller than the GP-100 sights.
There is always nail polish or paint for the front sight.

Personally I like the HiViz light stix up front and the outlined notch in the rear. :D

+1 on the Millet site. I put the white on mine. It keeps the gun looking very much stock and improves the site picture greatly. Best $10 I ever spent on Gunbroker!
Love my GP100!!!

Those are 2 inch groups off a sand bag rest at 25 yards, not unsupported. Doubt I could pull off the 1 inch challenge at 15, but it would be fun (and expensive) trying. Kentucky is a bit too far to travel though. :D

Jimbo turn me on to the hiviz, i'm extremely happy w/ them.
I used white out and bright nail polish, i still had problem w/ front sight.
With the hiviz worked really well.

As soon as I scrounge up $100, I'll probably order the Mepros. I've got to have night sights on every pistol; it just doesn't make any sense to me to not have them as they can only enhance the tack-driver accuracy of this revolver in a lowly lit environment.

I ended up painting the front sight with a base coat of white model paint followed by a top coat of orange. MUCH better. I may end up with something else down the road, but I like this so well that I ended up painting my 4-5/8" blued SBH's sights the same way, except that I also applied a white outline to the rear sight. Whoever suggested using a toothpick to apply the paint was right on. I just masked off the face of the front sight and the paint flowed easily and smoothly onto the surface. Thanks again.
