I WAS ACTUALLY THINKING THIS LAST NIGHT!

So with the help of the internets i did some research. came up with this:

Short Barrel: easier to carry/pack

Long Barrel: better sight radius and alighnment, more velocity, recoil reduction, has a more "bad guy gun" look to it

But then i read something about cylinder gap coming into play and determining some other stuff i kinda forgot at the moment.

Well...i wont be doing much if any type of carrying since i do live in the grand ol state of IL. So maybe things are more favorable for a longer lenght barrel...

I believe the majority of RugerForum members have a 4 in. barrel for the GP100 and 5 1/2 for the Blackhawk. This is my hypothesis :?:

I like my 4" GP100 allot.
While I cannot hit (reliably) smallish things at 100yds, I can do pretty well at 50.
If I was going to do more hunting, then I would opt for the longer barrel and scope. (I have a 6" taurus tracker in 22 cal that is a soup can killer at 100yds, it "just" weighs 4lbs though)

Just sort of depends on what you want to do with it as the primary function. I would hunt pigs with my 4", and I can CCW it with a big shirt so...

Just my $.02
