For the life of me, I can't get the plunger in the trigger group to budge. I've tried using the spring guide as the manual recommends along with other tools. I thought I had it licked when I thought of using a hex wrench so I had the short arm to apply more pressure with. Dang thing doesn't move a nanometer.

Short of clamping it in a vise and using a press (neither of which I have, or I might have tried that already), is there a certain 'trick' to it? My GP is blue, and I'm assuming the plunger is the round, stainless, partially beveled part visible through the slot in the grip frame when viewed from behind.

Thanks,

B

PS - I took my 8 yr old to the range the other day. He had a grand time shooting the 949 (9 shot .22, SA revolver) with me kneeling behind him so he could lean back against my chest while I supported his elbows. He even fired my GP once with a .38spl+p round and didn't think it was 'too bad.' The highlight for him was a gentleman who let him fire a musket (with a reduced charge). He was thrilled to put a ball into the target. Good times.

Merlinspop, On the extremely hard-stuck plungers, apply some penetration oil and then use an appropriate size pin punch and hammer. It "will" break loose so you can then use a Rugger Popper, etc. to take out the assembly........................Dick

Thanks, Dick... I'll try to use a bit more force to 'persuade' the plunger to plunge next time.

I had the same issue with my new GP, try to pull the trigger a little while applying pressure with a flat head screw driver, and keep applying the pressure.

Yea mine was tight too, and I used a small punch and tapped it with a tack hammer...I use an old test light (well worn tip) now to depress that little sucker...

Merlinspop, is your GP a newer one with the hole through the grip stud so you can stick something straight through to depress the plunger? Or an older one where you have to go through the hammer slot or around the grip stud? If it's a newer one, hit it REAL WELL with some penetrating oil, then stick a small, slotted screwdriver through the hole. If you can get it to move, depress the plunger and give the screwdriver a twist, it should lever the trigger frame out enough to get it out. My SP101 was so tight I thought I'd never get the trigger frame out the first time. I did this and it just popped right out.

If it's an older style, good luck! My GP100 is the older style and I thought I'd NEVER get the trigger frame out the first time! Penetrating oil and keep trying is all I can think of, unless you get the "Ruger Popper" that GP100man sells. The good thing is, after you take it out and reinstall it a few times, it gets a LOT easier!

Yup, that's it. Will hit it with penetrating oil. I actually do have an old broken test light that might be just the ticket if I can find the durn thing.
