Just got back from a run to the LGS to pick up a transfer (Non Ruger....late night impaired impulse buy ). While waiting on them to bring it out I noticed a stainless 4" GP100 in the used guns cabinet. A closer look showed it was a bring back via Century Arms. It had the CAI GEORGIA VT stamp. Serial number showed it was shipped 1990. It had typical carry wear and tear on it but overall looked to be in good shape. I didn't have time to take a good look at it or I would have started to haggle. Tag said $550 but I can usually trim those folks down.

Wish that thing could talk. Wondering if it was part of the Canadian RMCP contract back in the day.

Fixed sites and compact grip?
Half lug? 38?

Heck, I'd throw $500 at that
Fixed sights, half lug, 357, full grip, stainless

From Ruger serial number look up:

So the spousal overseer unit, aka Wife is tired of hearing me talk about this GP and fell for my moping about not buying a "decent" deal. She gave in (It worked!) and told me to go buy it. But, I won't be able to get back there to haggle on it until SAT am. Maybe FRI night since they are open until 8pm. But I'm sure it will be gone. Just like the P89 and MKII Govt I passed up there before.

I'm curious about the action. If this was a imported Police revolver it was probably imported as DAO. It has a spur hammer. So it may possibly have had the hammer replaced to enable SA/DA. Hopefully I will get a chance to find out.

Seems you're overthinking things.
Call them with your credit card in hand and offer $50 deposit to hold it until you get there late in the week.

Several years ago before that LGS changed hands.....the original owner (RIP) would have noticed me looking so hard at it and provided fantastic customer service....and if said I was pressed for time he would have put it aside and said come back when you can. It's a decent LGS still, just very different. They won't hold it.

If it's meant to be then it will be there FRI pm or SAT am.

I bought mine in June of 2007 and mine is a 3 inch fixed sight barrel, DAO, 357 with a spurless hammer. The grey plastic box that it came in is not for my gun but for one 216 serial numbers later. Boxes must have gotten switched at Century Arms. It's my understanding that these were part of a Canadian municipal police purchase and not from the RCMP. There are no non-factory markings on mine other that the 'C.A.I. GEORGIA VT' on the frame.
My gun was in very good shape but the rubber part of the compact grip was torn and one of the wood panels was cracked. The rubber part was cheap to replace and I glued the busted wood panel together. However, the compact factory grip makes the gun feels top heavy and it doesn't balance well. I've have full sized factory grips on it which feel better to me but makes it a bigger package. I may put some Pachmayr Diamond Pros on it.
I think the 3 inch GP100s are 'neither fish nor fowl', not really a suitable snub nor as good as an adjustable sight field gun, but I've had it for 18 years so it must be good for something.
Specifics from the label on the box are: Model 01719, Catalog KGPF-330, and the 3 inch barrel is tapered or slants underneath, sort of a scant lug and not a full lug profile.

So I played hooky today and went back to look at that GP. The 4 inch w/full grips was gone. However there was another consignment GP…also with the CAI stamp but a 3" and compact grips. It also had the spurred hammer. The owner who had it on consignment would not budge under $500. The thing is tight as new. Some wear marks as to be expected but in good shape. Serial number has it as a 1990 as well. I handed over the $500 and brought it home. Needs a bath, oil and some polishing.
Debating on whether to keep the spur hammer or not. I will get better pics when I get to range.

Got one just like it. Picked it up at the Tupelo gun show about 20 years ago. Got robbed paying 350. It resides 18 inches from me right now watching TV. Never sell it.

I saw one of the CAI reimport 3 inch models on Gunbroker about a month ago, I think they wanted $550. I almost went for it but I really wanted a 3 inch Speed Six so I held off. Then I found a 3 inch Service Six and jumped on it! I still want one of these exact GPs eventually, I like the 3/4 lug so much better than the full lug on the current version. All of the 3 inch reimport guns I've seen have had the spurred hammer but I don't know if they were supposed to be DAO or not.

This reminds me of 20 years ago when I was still working and money was more plentiful for me. We would go on a weekend to visit our daughter and son-in-law about 80 miles away and I would visit the a really good LGS that had both used and new guns. I would spy something and come Monday or Tuesday I would call the wife and tell her I was gonna take the afternoon off and run back and pick something up that I had seen. Usually she would say, I'm busy, do what ya gotta do. :ROFLMAO: Those were good times.😊
