I wasn’t sure whether I’d keep this little.44; but a short range session has settled the matter. She’s staying around. Might have to tweak the rear sight a bit.

That's what I've found too with my GP100's, and I especially love the 44special. What ammo do you shoot? I use my handloads (200 grain Nosler JHP with 6 grains of Win 231).

I just shot it using a spare box of HSM 240-grain Cowboy loads. It will be interesting to work up a good hand load for it. The .44 Special is generally quite agreeable with a wide range of loads.

Yeah, it's very flexible. I wouldn't hotrod it too much though in the GP100. The forcing cone on the 44 special is comparatively quite thin so I keep the loads pretty light.

Nice ... Now What was the distance you shot that group with? 25 Yards?

A good load for it is the standard Skeeter load. That is what mine digests whenever it makes it out. I have the Talo version which has wood grips and a gold dot front sight.

I have had two S&W 44spl's. A 624 and a 24 and my 624 liked 7.5/unique/240 commercial cast and my 24 likes 7.0 /unique/240 CC lead bullets. Both loads do not exceed 15K , per the loading manuals, and are very accurate at 25 yards. They are fun to do longer range plinking also and can lob those bullets in at 150 yards nicely.

I love mine, and find it quite accurate just like yours.
I put some VZ grips on mine. I can't stand rubber. I have only ever shot commercial loads through mine, so far.

Been a 44 Spl shooter and reloader since 1974, Brian Pearce in Handloader magazine produced many loads for 44 PL and the very best load I have ever shot in a 44 SPL comes from his work.

It is a 240 SWC over 8.0 grains of Power Pistol and a standard large primer for under 17K on pressure and 950-980fps depending on bbl length. Extraordinary accuracy and I've switched all my 44s over to that load. The old Keith load and the Skeeter load have been retired at this house.

Yep, Power Pistol makes a good load too. 8.0g puts it about the same velocity as the Skeeter load. I've marked is as accurate in my load table. I've got lots and lots of Unique and the Skeeter load is plenty accurate for me, so sticking with until it is gone.... which will probably be when I am pushing up daisies.

Nice flattop! My two .44 Special flattops are both 5 1/2" barreled. One Bisley and one plow handle. The plow handle one is the one that gets the most use here.

That looks a lot like mine, except mine is a conversion from the 357 75th (?) Anniversary Flattop to 44S. And mine is the 4 5/8" barrel.

44 Spl in either gripframe as a Flattop are some of the best that Ruger has ever made.
