Gentlemen, I just sold my SP 101 3" and now Im at a stand still. I really want a GP 100 with either the 4 or 6 inch , or the Lipseys 5" would be great too. They seem really hard to find. I am on the fence of the SP 101 4" with the adjustable sights, or holding off and trying to find a GP. If anyone has any leads I would appreciate it.
Also, would you say the GP is about the same Size as a SW K or L frame ? The 3 inch 101 was my carry gun. I can easily still carry a 4" 101, and I used to frequently carry my SW 19 so size or weight isnt a huge factor, and I rarely carry any more anyway, so Im thinking the GP would be a nicer range gun with the extra weight.
I have other options for carry guns as well so thats not a deal breaker on one VS the other either. Just trying to decide on a SP which I can get tomorrow due to many available, or hold off for a GP..decisions decisions....

I can tell you that the GP is pretty much the same size as an L frame Smith as they can share holsters. My GP's are both .357's and all the others I've had have been .38's or .357 so can't comment on the .327. Good luck.

I also am on the fence on buying a SP101 with 4" barrel. I have a GP100 in 357 with a 6" full lug and love it. I was looking at the SP as something for my wife to shoot 32 H&R mag through comfortably but she held one and thought it was too heavy. So I'm struggling with getting it for myself

Ive had 2 SP101 , 357 and 327, both 3". I think they are great, and the 327 shooting 32 H&R was a pleasure...but yes, they are a little heftier that a snub nose J frame for instance. Charter arms makes some nice lightweights in .32 HR. Ive never owned a charter, and have heard mixed reviews, but mostly good feedback

I am not a fan of fixed sights which is why I would prefer the 4" barrel. But I will look into Charter Arms in 32 H&R . I hadn't thought of that. I wanted a beefier frame so she wouldn't fear the recoil. If I looked into 32 H&R and shot 32 long maybe would have the same effect?

not sure on the weight, but Charter has the 3" pro which looks nice, and also a snub nose model I believe

Well here is a size comparison for you of the Ruger options.

Which to get?
None are easy to find and I'm a guy that would be happier shooting something then I am searching for it and waiting.
I'd say get the one you find and decide which you want if the other becomes available.
Don't forget the wonderful 3" Lipsey's recently offered with the full adj sights.

I've decided to get the Charter Arms 32 H&R professional IV 7 shot. It is fixed sights but my wife doesn't mind that. I already cast and reload for that caliber for my Blackhawk Buckeye. Hopefully she will enjoy the pistol if not, I'll probably keep it myself if it shoots true

The charter seems like a good choice. I nearly got one myself but decided to stick with 327 Federal, which charter unfortunately doesnt make. If its a mostly a defensive weapon fixed sights are no issue. The average fire fight happens at 3-7 yards. I tend to like fixed sights but usually try for adjustable because I hunt and punch paper a lot. Good choice and good luck. Let us know how the PRO looks, feels, and functions

Have you considered the relatively new Lipsey's SP101 3-inch in .327 Fed Mag? It's a dream to carry, soaks up recoil pretty well for me for everything but the Speer Gold Dot 100 grain punishers, and isn't too hard to find with a basic search (gun.deals). I love the GP100 but found that I never forgot that I was carrying it and when I got home I was pretty much always ready to take it off. The Lipsey's SP101 3-inch in .327 Fed Mag, on the other hand, is the "always gun" that the GP100 could never be.

That Lipsey's does look nice......
I have both but if the finances permit I would certainly go with the Ruger. My SP-101 guns, like ALL sp-101s require some fluff & buff TLC to make them feel good of course.
The CA guns took more work to get them right.
I have had a love/hate relationship with CA guns and my 2, 32 pros were no different.
The sights are poorly regulated and take some work to get them to shoot where they are pointed. One of them had 3 trips back before it was condemned and replaced. Plus, the outside finish on the newer guns is basically atrocious.

The good news is CA has great cust. service and never quibbled about shipping or my complaints. Plus 7 shots is cool.

would you say the CA is lighter or smaller frame ? the intent is for my wife to use as PD and she found the SP101 a little heavy

Sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. I will reach out to my local shop and get one coming. Thanks for all your advice, I'll let you know how it works out. I may buy some 32 S&W long just to see the difference in recoil.
