Picked up a new Bearcat Shopkeeper today at local gun shop $525.00. Only one problem , it has some scratches on the back strap. Got home , called Ruger and they are sending UPS to pick it up tomorrow. Don't even get a chance to play with it.
Man do I feel stupid "Duh". Went down stairs grabbed the "MOTHERS MAG POLISH" , took off the grips , 15 minutes latter I've got a mirror polished back strap , NO scratches. Thanks , some times the old brain needs a jump start.Kevin said:Didn't you see them on the gun before buying it? How bad are the scratches ? As in are they deep scratches you can't just "polish" out? Did you take any pictures?
I'm not trying to be difficult, I just don't understand how bad they are. If you shoot the gun it will develop handling marks.
I have the: MOTHERS MAG & ALUMINUM POLISH and it brought the back strap to a mirror polish in a matter of a few minutes with a old cotton wash cloth and some good old rubbing. Now I have to polish the whole gun cause it looks so damn good. Extremely Pleased , Highly RecommendHeavyDuty said:How fast does Mother's Mag Polish cut? I recently tried polishing up some stainless using the current version of Flitz and wasn't happy. The old Flitz in the tube worked better IIRC.

Yes , but in the end when I'm finished ***( Full mirror polish , Sambar Stag Grips , Custom leather holster )*** , I will have one beautiful piecerugerguy said:you could have wiped it down with a 3M Scotchbrite pad, skipped the polish and "matched" the factory finish in a few seconds.........................
You are 100% correct. I started off needing a fix and ended up coming up with ideas to go beyond what was necessary in the beginning to fix a problem. I just think the little gun cries for some bling , bling.rugerguy said:my point, and remedy goes back to what can be done or needed to make it as it should have been ,come from the factory, and your concern in your original post; when it comes to "customizing", then that's a horse of a different color, and not whats expected from the factory, in a 'stock' version....so enjoy, bottom line a very nice gun......
