I see a lot of posts about Kroil on the forum boards but I've never used it. If I were to run across it for sale I would most likely give it a try. I don't think I've ever seen it at a parts house, hardware or home improvement store around here.
I have been reading a bit on the web this afternoon on oils and such . I never realized some guys "brew " homemade rust preventer /cleaners for guns . Using car oils , auto. Trans. Fluid etc . 😊
Lots of recipes ................

I have a Mossberg 151K, with a Mossberg 4X scope that I inherited from my Father in-law and I use it for coyote deterrence at home. He bought it in 1950 I believe.

I have some CCI subsonic 40 Grain HP that are perfect for letting the coyotes know they are not welcome, without annoying the neighbors too much.

I am pretty sure a well placed shot would drop one of them, but, then I would have the hassle of disposing of the carcass so I shoot for less critical spots.

I've used untold GALLONS of WD-40 while machining Aluminum when I worked as a toolmaker/machinist...Best thing there is to keep high speed steel tooling from galling up. I don't nor would use it on my firearms however. I also don't leave ANY kind of food scraps in or around my yard, that's just asking for numerous kinds of unwanted critter problems.

Check O'REILLY auto parts. Sometimes they have it. I order by the case from their website. Great stuff.

I once had a rusty contender barrel. With the knowledge that fine steel wool and oil would safely remove rust on a blued gun, I thought to give it a try. Since Kroil works well on rust, I used it . I now had a spotless barrel in the white. No blue whatsoever. The Kroil removed EVERYTHING!

Kroil is usually in stock at my local NAPA store. Amazon also sells it and cheaper.
Between Kroil and Rem oil, my gun needs are covered.
I use a lot of Kroil on my vintage (rusty) farm equipment.
I am a retired auto repair tech. Everybody always had PB blaster in the shop. When it didn't work, they would come begging for my can of Kroil.

Working at a papermill as a Millwright for 41 years and I can tell you that Kroil was a lifesaver removing rusted bolts and nuts from equipment that was continually wet from water and chemicals. This 73 Winchester was totally frozen and not operational. After soaking in Kroil it loosened up everything and it is totally functional now. Just let it work for a while.
They even have some with graphite mixed in it that I use on my leaf sprig trucks to quieten the squeaks.
WD40 is for removing moisture and rust preventative.
