I Posted a picture of the Standard Ruger I recently got, with the Salt Cod box…… the story gets more interesting!
In researching the gun according to John Dougan's The Vintage Years I happened across this paragraph:

This pistol serial number is 2127!!!!!
How about that!
So I'm wondering if the documentation on the Cod box and corresponding letters were from serial number 0144, which apparently was returned and 2127 was its replacement on 1/24/1950????
Any thoughts?

What do you think Ruger did with one of the early ones returned and they replaced?

I would bet they repaired them if they could. Things were pretty tight back then, and WBR was known to be frugal.
Hopefully someone here with more knowledge than I chimes in.

Kinda interesting, I have #2027 and it was shipped November 1954!!! Maybe it was sent in for a repair, got replaced and shipped later??

Fun stuff.
