Of all the pro heavyweight boxers he was my favorite personality. He was always a pleasant listen.

Rest in Peace, George...

RIP. Not just a boxer, a salesman, too. My parents absolutely LOVED their George Forman grill. I'm not making fun, these were two middle America people that never met a black person in their lives and gave him the credit for the appliance, and they really liked and used it. Changed a couple of minds about race in a pretty uncommon way.

I, too, thought a lot of George. Not a brash look at me kind of guy.

Funny story about the grill and I assume it is true.
I think it was Hulk Hogan who said he was offered the opportunity to put his name on that grill, do the sales pitches and partner with the manufacturer. He thought it was a silly gimmick at the time.
Lesson learned.

He came and did the ribbon cutting at our Battalion gym when it opened at Fort Hood. He ran with us at PT that morning. He was a very nice man. It was hell trying to slow the pace of an infantry battalion to Georges jogging pace! lol. He was a great fighter. He lived north of me outside of Houston and I never heard anything but praise of the man. RIP

I watched the Rumble in the Jungle on PPV in Reno. I was an Ali fan and feared for him during the early rounds, but he came back and defeated Foreman. Out of the ring Foreman, I got a chance to get his autograph. He declined signing a card with his picture on it as his manager said it was not authorized, probably he would not get any money from that card company, but he said he did not mind signing his name on a piece of paper. He was such a gentleman and my son bought me one of his grille's, which I still use to this day.
May he RIP!

Re; clay. In the late 60s i found a postage stamp with cc on it, and asked my gradeschool teacher, i thought you had to be dead to be on a stamp? She said, yep, he's dead all right.
I also recall all the people surprised george was still alive when he bought the grille so he could sell it with his name on it...cheeseburger george seemed to be having fun with life even if there wasent a camera pointed at him.
