Some vacation reading. Or take a "vacation" at your lunch break. Used books for sale.

A. "The Hunt" by John G. Mitchell. A personal exploration of hunting in America and th emotions it inspires. Covers both passionate hunters and anti-hunters from the point of view of each. Good "talking points" for hunter advocates. HB 243 pp. in exc. cond but with library discard stamps on flyleaf and spine. $5

B. "The Natural History of Deer" by Rory Putnam. A deer biology book--vital to deer hunters, but not about hunting per se. H. "Steven J. Gould Trio: Three Volumes of Reflections on Nature" by Steven J. Gould. Gould is probably the most prominent current EVOLUTIONIST, so if you hate those theories or don't care about them, skip this!! A boxed collector's set of his essays in three volumes: "The Panda's Thumb," "Hens' Teeth and Horses' Toes," and "The Flamingo's Smile." Readable science. 3 new condition PB volumes in a slightly worn box: 1232 pp. illus w/b/w photos, drawings, charts, and diagrams. $10

L. "West With The Night" by Beryl Markham. Markham was a pioneer raised in East Africa in the first two decades of the 20th century. This is her memoir of growing up, flying the mail, and bush flying all over the region. A friend of Hemingway (who admired this book), she was the first person to solo across the Atlantic from Europe to America (opposite way to Lindbergh). Quality PB exc. cond 220 pp. illus w/b/w photos and maps. $5

W. "The 21st Century Soldier: the Weaponry, Gear, and Technology in the New Century" by Frank Vizard and Phil Scott. A 2002 review of the status of military hardware and the weapons to come (some have!). Sections on aircraft (including drones), armor, ships (inc. drones!) weapons, gear, and tactics. Full of full-page color photos, artists' drawings of future weapons, tables, and charts. From "Popular Science." HB 8 1/2x11" 175 pp. exc. cond. but no dust jacket. $6

X. "Janes' World Armored Fighting Vehicles" by Christopher F. Foss. Janes' volume that covers post-WWII armored vehicles up to 1976. Tanks, SP guns, AA vehicles, APCs, combat engineering "funnies," and recon vehicles, many of them still in service. Exc. details of development, including an Abrams prototype.
