I shot the Ruger 10/22 that I'm borrowing and I actually did ok. The problem is I have a hard time seeing the sight, and I must've seen something because everything was high and and a little left.

If I was to buy it I'd have to replace them, so what would be a good replacement? Fiberoptic?

I'm not sure I need a scope just yet, but I know I'll get a red dot if I go that route. Thanks.

When shooting you should focus on the front sight. But you knew that.

I don't like the fiber optic sights for target work. IMHO, it's like looking into a flash light and trying to see what's beyond. But that's just me.

I wear specs and have a special pair just for shooting. Focal point is at the front sight.

Can you focus your eye on the front sight?

Not sure. I can see the front spec until I start getting it close to lining up with the rear sight, then the gold dot gets lost in the wash. Unfortunately my right eye is the weaker of the two, so that doesn't help either.

I suppose I could try painting a white dot on the sight. Might make it stand out more.

I know some shooters that use reading glasses to aid them in focusing on the front sight.

I know what you mean about that gold bead. It seems to get lost at just the wrong time.

Your eyes can not focus on 3 objects at one time if they are at different distances. (Rear sight, front sight, target.) Therefore, you have to focus on the front sight. It makes the rear sight slightly blurry, and the target the blurriest.
Before you change a sight, or paint one, clean the gold bead to where it's easier to focus on. Then concentrate on focusing on it when shooting.
Many of us who wear glasses have a pair built to where our sharpest focal point it the same distance as a front sight would be from our eyes. If you don't wear glasses, then buy a low powered pair of "cheater" cheap eyeglasses. That may help a bunch!
I did that for a few years before I had to get prescription glasses.

If you really want a front sight that is easy to see, get a Trueshot Bravo sight...
I'm not selling for them, but I am a truly satisfied customer..
I use a set of those sights on my 10-22TD for Ruger Rimfire competitions and they work great.
Even with bifocals, you just make the peep and the round ghost ring line up and your dead on...!

Check out thier sights, you won't regret it...

Don't know why I didn't mention them earlier. There are two products, LYMAN's "HawkEye" and the "EYE-PAL".

They use the same principle as the pinhole camera. With either one you can see the target, front and rear sights clearly. May be worth your efforts to check them out.
